Selena wasn't having any of it. She knew exactly what to expect from him—nothing good. His dark eyes locked onto her fair, delicate face, giving her no escape from his suggestive words that oozed through the phone, each word a slow tease.
"Selena, I miss you so much I can't sleep..."
"I want to kiss you, touch you, be with you completely."
"Remember that night? You were on my lap, your face all flushed, urging me on. Do you know how beautiful you looked..."
In the stillness of the night, his husky voice was like a thousand feathers tickling her heart. It sent shivers down her spine.
Even though nothing was happening, Selena felt like everything had. She felt... tainted.
With a sharp click, she hung up and flung the phone away. Her heart pounded as her face turned a shade of crimson.
Meanwhile, on the other end, seeing the phone screen go dark, a small smile played on his lips. She was still as easy to fluster as ever.
But then... Everett glanced down, noticing his predicament. His pants were uncomfortably tight. He chuckled, loosening his tie. What started as a playful tease to blow off some steam had backfired.
He lit a cigarette, taking a drag as he gazed out at the city from his window. The bustling cityscape was stunning, perhaps even more so than Newport's, yet it felt empty without her by his side. He missed her more than he'd realized.
Ava came over, gently patting Selena’s back, asking if she was okay. Selena, initially caught off guard, soon realized what might be happening and smiled softly. Having been through pregnancy before, she didn't need words to understand.
Could it be that her period was late because... a new little one was on the way? Ava noticed Selena's hand on her stomach and caught on, though she still asked, “Really?”
“I haven’t taken a test yet, but it seems likely,” Selena replied, excitement in her voice. She had always loved kids, and now felt like the perfect time for another.
Besides, Everett seemed to have a knack for getting what he wanted. He had jokingly asked for another child, keeping her awake half the night. Things got a bit too passionate, and she forgot the pill. And here they were.
Selena drove Mateo to school, watching as he ran to his friends Dylan and Cindy, hugging them tightly as if they hadn't seen each other in ages.
