Everett noticed the worry etched on her face and stepped in closer. "Selena, that guy is bad news. If he's cozying up to you, it's not just to handle your divorce case. He—"
"Mr. Everett!"
Selena couldn't take it anymore and cut him off sharply. "My life is none of your business!"
"And about Blaine, whether I see more of him is on you, Mr. Everett. If you'd just head to the courthouse and sign the divorce papers, I wouldn't need him. Maybe you should focus on your own decisions instead of mine!"
Everett was at a loss for words.
"I'm only looking out for you!"
He was scared she might make a hasty decision, desperate for a divorce, and end up in a mess. No matter what, he wouldn't hurt her or their kid!
Selena wasn't buying it.
"I know who I should hang out with, Mr. Everett. You're really overstepping."
With that, she turned on her heel and headed back inside, done with the argument.
Everett was so frustrated, he vented by yanking flowers from the ground. Things ended on a sour note.
That night, Everett found himself back in the guest room.
The next morning, he didn't linger around, waiting for Selena and their child to get up so he could take them to school. Instead, he left early.
Ava scoffed. Typical men—big talkers, no follow-through. So much for trying to win his wife back—straight to the point of no return!
...
Blaine had his car in for service that day. As he stepped out of his apartment, several cars rolled up, surrounding him.
He quirked an eyebrow.
The window of the middle car's backseat lowered slowly, revealing Everett’s cold, handsome profile.
Bill got out, gesturing politely. "Attorney Blaine, please get in the car."
Though it was framed as an invite, it was clear there was no saying no.
Blaine casually twirled the ring on his finger but remained calm. As Bill opened the door, he stepped in without hesitation.
In a private club lounge, Everett lounged lazily on a leather sofa, his long legs elegantly crossed, while Blaine sat across from him. Even though he was at a disadvantage, Blaine showed no signs of intimidation.
As he said this, he even threw a cheeky wink at Alex.
Alex: ...
Dang it, didn't expect to get flirted with.
Everett's dark eyes narrowed. "Are you sure you want to go against me?"
"No matter how powerful you are elsewhere, this is Newport!"
His presence alone was intimidating.
Bill and the team were ready to jump in.
Blaine shrugged. "I get that even a powerful dragon can't outmatch a local snake. If you want, I might not even make it out of here!"
"But... Mr. Everett, before you do anything, maybe check this out."
Calmly, he pulled a document from his briefcase and tossed it in front of Everett.
Everett's eyes landed on the document, and in the next moment, they widened in shock.
