Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire novel Chapter 709

That must be the scar from the surgery. Even though it had faded, his skin was so pale that if you looked closely, you could still see it. Just like the scar on his back from taking that knife for her—a mark that would never disappear.

Everett caught her staring at him, eyes fixed and unblinking. He smirked a little and strolled over, his long fingers playfully lifting her chin. “Have you had your fill? Or are you thinking of giving it a try?”

His eyes danced with mischief.

Selena's eyelashes fluttered as she snapped out of her daze. She took a step back and held out the clothes she had in her hand. “There aren’t any of your clothes here, so wear this for now.”

Everett glanced at the clothes, clearly meant for a man. His expression turned icy, and in a heartbeat, he seized Selena’s wrist. In a deep, commanding voice, he asked, “Whose clothes are these?”

His grip was firm, almost crushing her bones.

Selena frowned, trying to pull away, but he wouldn’t let go. Ah, that's a man for you. Even if he forgets how he felt about you, the possessiveness runs deep.

Selena looked at him calmly and suddenly replied, “A stranger’s.”

“You...”

Everett was taken aback by her bluntness. His dark eyes narrowed, and he tightened his grip on her arm. Before she knew it, Selena was pinned to the bed.

Everett held her hands beside her face, his tall figure looming over her, his gaze dangerously intense. “Selena, as the mother of my children, you can’t be so reckless. If you can’t handle being alone, then both kids will be mine.”

It had been so long since they’d been this close. His embrace was still as domineering and fiery as she remembered. Selena missed it, even wanted to throw caution to the wind and hold him.

Over the past year, she’d been hoping for his return, imagining all sorts of scenarios for when he did. Perhaps they’d remarry, perhaps they’d have a sweet romance, perhaps they’d make up for past regrets. But she never imagined it would end up like this.

She felt sad, disappointed, and didn’t know how to handle this version of him.

Taking advantage of a moment of distraction, Selena pushed him away, sat up, and pulled up the jacket that had slipped off her shoulders. “Get some rest.”

She gathered herself, stood up, and headed for the door. To her surprise, when she turned the lock, it was stuck…

Everett glanced over, the hint of frustration gone, as if he saw right through Selena’s little plan. In a few quick strides, he had her pinned against the door again. His voice, deep and husky, came from above her.

“Selena, playing hard to get? Saying one thing and meaning another?”
