As she spoke, she pulled out a tiny taser from her pocket and handed it over to Selena.
"Here you go, ma'am. Keep this handy for self-defense. If any sleazy guy tries to mess with you again, just zap him!"
Selena chuckled.
"Alright, I'll hang onto it."
...
Later that afternoon, Holt came in with some great news.
It turned out that Kesler International backed out of their collaboration, which meant Jason wasn't going to pull the plug on the contract, and the project was back on track.
Holt was over the moon, praising her, "Miss, you're amazing! You even managed to sway someone like Abraham."
Selena was lounging in Blaine's office, leaning back into the comfy leather chair.
"It wasn't me who convinced Abraham. He just realized that his future was more important than his sister's petty jealousy. He wasn't about to gamble with that."
Yesterday, when Abraham played hardball by making her down a whole bottle of wine, she knew then he'd come around. That bottle was his way of making it up to his sister.
Deep down, people are selfish. No matter how much they care, when it comes to their own interests, they'll make concessions.
But regardless, Selena managed to keep the project alive, and that was a temporary relief.
"Go on, Holt, and get busy. I've got to give Blaine a call."
Holt nodded, "Sure thing, Miss. The big boss is going to be thrilled when he hears this."
Where there's happiness, there's also disappointment.
