Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire novel Chapter 798

When folks lose their cool, their words can really sting.

Selena was worn out. She didn't want to get into a shouting match with Everett right now; it would only end up hurting them both with no gain in sight.

By this point, she’d figured something out.

What really got under Everett's skin wasn't Abraham's pressure. A guy like him, full of pride and confidence, thrived on high-stakes challenges. If he couldn't choose the peaceful and profitable route, he wasn't one to shy away from a fight.

So, if she guessed right, Everett must’ve caught wind of her chat with Joy earlier that afternoon.

She wasn’t worried about anyone knowing what she’d said, including him.

They had an agreement—it was just a deal, just for six months.

But what she didn’t see coming was Everett's intense reaction.

Of course, Everett had a domineering streak. He was never content with just a little; he always wanted more, and that’s what made him a powerhouse in business. But emotions? That was a whole different ball game.

He couldn’t have everything his way, not when it came to feelings.

Selena decided to smooth things over. “Everett, I'm beat. I just want to sleep. We can chat about everything else once you’ve cooled down.”

With that, she gently nudged Everett aside, made her way to the bed, pulled back the covers, and lay down, eyes shut.

Everett’s dark eyes stayed glued to her slender back, his hands clenched tightly beside him.

She didn’t even want to talk to him!

Even if she wasn’t keen on the idea of being a lover, she stuck around, choosing to stay in that role rather than mix things up.

Who was she staying true to?

The man he used to be?

What a joke!

Everett couldn’t bear her avoidance. He marched over to the bed, yanking the covers off her and tossing them to the floor.

Downstairs, a car engine revved up and drove away.

Selena stared at the ceiling, lost in thought for quite a while...

...

When she finally woke, it was nearly noon.

Ava had kept breakfast warm for Selena, and when she saw her come downstairs, she quickly brought it out.

Selena wasn’t feeling particularly hungry, but with a whole day of work ahead, she couldn’t go without eating. She forced herself to eat a little.

Ava watched her pale, tired face and hesitated.

Finally, she couldn’t hold back any longer and asked softly, “Ma’am, did the Mister come by last night?”

She was getting older, and her sleep was light, so she thought she’d heard arguments from the room above and a car leaving early in the morning.
