Even though Selena's now a graceful and elegant mom, back in the day, she had a playful and lively charm, even when she was being a bit flirty. That's a far cry from the woman standing in front of him now, who just screamed 'cheap' and 'gaudy' from head to toe.
Everett smirked slightly, his expression unreadable. "So, did Mallie come here just to have a look at me?"
Breanne thought she had him hooked and was about to celebrate when his next words stopped her cold.
"If that's the case, you've seen me now. You can head out."
Breanne's confident grin faltered.
But she quickly bounced back, playfully pouting at Everett, her voice dripping with sweetness. "Mr. Everett, why are you playing hard to get? I've come all this way just for you, and you still don't catch my drift?"
Everett gave a faint smile, completely unfazed. "Honestly, I don't."
Breanne bit her lip in frustration. He was clearly putting on a gentleman act. But he had the clout to pull it off. If she could snag him, she could really climb the social ladder.
With that thought, Breanne decided to give it her all. She got up and knelt by Everett's side, resting on his leg. Her eyes were sultry as she looked up at him. "Mr. Everett, I've liked you since the moment I saw you. As long as I can be by your side, even without a title, I'm all in."
"Let me stay with you, take care of you... how does that sound?"
As she spoke, she reached out to touch his thigh.
Everett's dark eyes gave her a cool, sideways glance that was so intimidating, she froze, pulling back her hand quickly, not daring to push any further.
After a moment, Everett's graceful fingers lifted Breanne's chin, giving her face another look before he spoke in his smooth, low voice.
"You can go now. Alex will be in touch later."
On the way, Everett instructed Alex to reach out to Breanne, sort her out with a house, and figure out what other resources she might want.
Alex's face was hard to read. She glanced at her boss through the car's rearview mirror, opening her mouth to speak several times but holding back.
Everett, looking over a report, didn't even glance up as he said, "If you've got something to say, just spit it out."
Alex clenched her fists and couldn't help but speak up. "Mr. Everett, I just think your taste is really off. That starlet is obviously all made up, nothing like our lady boss who's a natural beauty. She doesn't even come close!"
"You've had the best, how can you settle for this kind of junk food? Or is it that you guys just can't spot a gold-digger? Do you all fall for this kind of fake charm?"
Everett looked up at her words, giving her a sideways glance that sent a chill down Alex's spine...
