Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire novel Chapter 864

Devin's lips were almost touching Joy's ear, his words carrying a chilling undertone that sent a shiver right down to her bones.

"I'm here for your life..."

The suite was dimly lit, with just one wall lamp by the door casting a faint, eerie glow, heightening the already tense atmosphere.

Joy had knocked back more drinks than usual, leaving her unable to keep her usual cool head. Panic was starting to seep in.

She never thought Devin, with his almost magical ability to find people, could track her down here, despite her brother's extensive manhunt.

This guy was a loose cannon, capable of anything.

Her first priority was to keep herself alive.

Joy took deep breaths, trying to calm her racing mind. Her voice was still shaky, but she managed to speak more clearly this time.

"Devin, if you kill me, it might feel good for a moment, but everyone's outside hunting for you. You won't get away. Do you really want to spend your life locked up?"

"But... if you let me go, I promise you a hefty sum. I can get you a new identity and a ticket to freedom abroad, just like before."

"Heh."

Devin's cold laugh interrupted her, "You think I still buy that? You promised the same before, and look where we are. You tried to have me silenced. If I weren't lucky, I'd be six feet under by now."

The knife in Devin's hand pressed even closer to Joy's neck. "If I'm going down, you’re coming with me!"

"No... no, you won’t."

"With the knife, I... I'm scared."

She bit her lip softly, her voice turning gentle, clearly playing the damsel in distress card.

Most men, confident in their strength, often underestimated a seemingly weak woman. If she appeared submissive, they usually let their guard down.

Of course, Joy had no intention of giving Devin any money. It was just a delaying tactic. She had a panic button in her purse—a gift from her brother.

As long as Devin was around, she couldn't sleep soundly. He was a ticking time bomb that needed defusing.

Her plan was to keep him calm until her brother's men arrived to finish the job.

Joy savored the thought, waiting for Devin to release her, but suddenly he let out another cold laugh, and the knife traced a line of blood across her neck.
