As soon as he finished his piece, he shrugged off Selena's grasp with a firm motion. With his hands tucked nonchalantly into his pockets, he glared down at her, still sprawled across the table.
"Well, since you’ve made your move, I wish you and Abraham all the luck in the world. But if I get a chance to hit back, Selena, I swear I'll make the rest of your life a living nightmare."
"Get out."
Selena took a moment, closing her eyes to gather herself. With trembling fingers, she straightened her clothes and smoothed her hair, then squared her shoulders and walked out with purpose.
Levi was waiting just outside, sporting a warm smile. "Ms. Selena, Mr. Abraham is waiting for you in the car. Please, follow me."
Instantly, Selena pulled herself together, shaking off the earlier despair. She clicked out confidently in her high heels, leaving her vulnerability behind.
Levi didn’t mind her newfound attitude. Her boldness today hinted that she was intent on becoming the one and only woman at Mr. Abraham’s side. As the prospective lady of the house, he knew he had to stay on her good side.
Inside the car, Abraham put down his iPad, which had been streaming the meeting room's surveillance footage. He had watched the showdown between Selena and Everett unfold, and he was thoroughly pleased with what he saw.
Abraham turned to Selena with a grin. "Selena, you outdid yourself."
His previous looks at Selena had been purely that of desire—a man wanting a woman. But this time, she had truly caught his attention.
Had Joy possessed even a fraction of Selena's resolve, she wouldn't have ended up where she was now. In Abraham's eyes, Selena was perfectly suited to be his partner.
He leaned in, taking her hand. "After such a win, how about we celebrate with a drink?"
Being no stranger to such advances, Selena smirked and slipped her hand away. "Mr. Abraham, maybe when you’ve clinched the top spot, we can toast to your success. Until then..."
Her meaning was crystal clear: Abraham wasn't quite on her level just yet.
Austin had been suspended pending an investigation, which sped up the timeline for the upcoming leadership election. Candidates were busy delivering speeches to rally support.
Today marked the final and most pivotal speech. Once it wrapped, the votes would cement the winner.
Abraham's supporters filled the massive auditorium, and the place was buzzing with excitement. Media crews were poised, and the event was broadcast live on TV.
"Don't be fooled, everyone! Abraham is the real devil!"
