Kayden didn't respond as he was too unsettled to calm down. It wasn't until a long while later that he slowly started to regain his composure. By now, his eyes were swollen from crying, and the tip of his nose was red, making him look pitiful.
"Are you feeling better now?" Charlotte gently wiped away his tears.
Kayden nodded. He also realized that his behavior wasn't right, making both Brian and Charlotte worry. Moreover, he had come to understand that although the DNA test results had been destroyed, they could still do it again next time.
Even if Charlotte wasn't his mother, it would be okay. He just had to try harder and make her like him and Brian. That would be enough!
With this thought, he sniffled and finally answered the question both of them were worried about, "No one bullied me."
Brian didn't believe him. "Tell me the truth. I promise not to punish you."
Kayden couldn't tell the truth, so after a moment of hesitation, he came up with an excuse. "Today after school, I saw that all the kindergarten kids had their mommies, but I didn't... so..."
He didn't finish his sentence, but Charlotte and Brian immediately understood.
Kayden must have been feeling emotional after seeing the other kids with their mothers, which was why he acted out when he got home.
Charlotte's heart instantly ached. There was no reason more heart-wrenching than this.
Brian hadn't expected this to be the cause. Kayden had always been calm and well-behaved since he was little. He had never asked for his mommy. So, he naturally assumed that Kayden was different from other children, but he hadn't realized...
His anger completely dissipated, and he no longer had any thoughts of scolding Kayden. Kayden was just a little kid, only five years old. It was he who had overlooked this.
Kayden sniffled and said in a voice that was still a bit choked from crying, "I'm fine now. I'm sorry for making you angry, Daddy."
