Manfred abruptly turned to look at Vivian.
Their eyes met.
By now, Vivian had pieced together the situation. The middle-aged couple in front of her must be Manfred's parents.
It seemed that something terrible had befallen Cyril, and they were blaming Manfred, trying to force him into a confession. They even dragged ghosts into their accusations.
As Vivian's indignation on Manfred's behalf grew, he unexpectedly turned to look at her.
Her face brightened instantly, and she walked over, her voice soft. "I brought the cake and the pasta we talked about last time."
Manfred's gaze softened as he looked at the bag she carried.
This scene sent a chill down Randall's and Zea's spines. They couldn't recall ever seeing Manfred smile like that. Yet now, after a brief glance at a particular spot, he turned and smiled at an empty chair. The smile was filled with an unfathomable tenderness.
"What are you looking at, Manfred? Are you seeing something—a ghost? Is it that female ghost Cyril mentioned?" Zea asked, her face pale with fear.
Despite asking, she wasn't entirely convinced. If there truly had been a ghost haunting Manfred all these years, she should have been scared out of her wits long ago, not free to torment him as she pleased.
Still, strange things always seemed to happen around him. She wondered how he could have survived all her attempts to starve or freeze him to death over the years.

More chapters please...
Is the author going to finally portray Skylark as a brave woman who can argue and communicate like a normal person in this real world? Hoping so.......
I don't like this story portraying Skylark's personality as too weak, too naive, Can't even defend herself Like accepting every humiliation from Vera's schemes and injustice without saying anything or doing anything. I wonder who is the protagonist in this novel, Vera or Skylark....
