Zea asked, "Then what about Cyril?"
Randall had finally regained his composure and began to think more rationally about the situation. "It probably wasn't the work of some female ghosts or Manfred. He's locked up in the storage shed, hasn't eaten a single piece of bread, and is so weak from hunger that he couldn't have harmed Cyril. This was likely the work of someone. Someone must have hired them to break in."
Zea nodded repeatedly, finding it reasonable.
Randall continued, "We cannot let this matter become public."
"But if we don't investigate further, won't that be unfair to Cyril? He's our only son," Zea said, her voice trembling as she thought of her son now rendered useless.
Her anger flared. Her son had been reduced to a helpless state while that wretched woman's son still thrived.
Randall sighed deeply. This was a heavy blow for him as well. "From now on, we'll tell everyone that Cyril is ill and needs to rest and recuperate."
"Does that mean you won't let Cyril go out and meet people anymore?" Zea gasped, realizing that Cyril, the supposed heir to the Atkinson family, could no longer leave the house.
Randall was helpless. "Even if he did go out, people would just mock him. We can't control what others say."
Zea cried out, "Then Cyril will just suffer without any justice? I feel like this has something to do with Manfred. Do you think he found out that you wanted Cyril to be the heir? He might have been upset and hired someone to harm Cyril."
Though she voiced her suspicion, a part of her couldn't shake the feeling that Manfred, confined to the storage shed, was under constant surveillance. He had been trapped there for days, only getting a sip of water now and then. He couldn't possibly have hurt anyone.
"I've told you, it's impossible for Manfred to be involved. He's been confined for years and doesn't have the means to do anything. Even if he resented Cyril, all he could do was harbor ill feelings.
"And even if he was somehow connected to those female ghosts, what could they do? All they can do is scare people," Randall said. He was clear about the situation.
Zea stared intently at him. "Randall, if Cyril can no longer have children, will you make Manfred the heir and let him show himself again?"

Is the author going to finally portray Skylark as a brave woman who can argue and communicate like a normal person in this real world? Hoping so.......
I don't like this story portraying Skylark's personality as too weak, too naive, Can't even defend herself Like accepting every humiliation from Vera's schemes and injustice without saying anything or doing anything. I wonder who is the protagonist in this novel, Vera or Skylark....
