Meanwhile, Mary remained seat, watching the waves come and go. Even though her family had a good standing in her country, she had never been able to visit the beach. She was lost in her thoughts when she realized that the man beside her had fallen asleep. He looked so attractive. His usually tense face was relaxed today, revealing exquisite features. “Mary, wake up! Come on, we need to eat something. What would you like?” 

“I’d love a hot dog!” she said, still groggy. 

“Okay, let’s go get your kid’s meal!” 

“Hey! You asked me what I wanted to eat.” 

“I thought you’d ask for something else.” 

“Well, after the hot dog, there is something I’d like to eat.” 

“Oh? Tell me what you’re craving.” 

“Is there a café around here?” 

“I guess so. This is one of the main beaches.” 

“I’d like a slice of strawberry cake with a cup of black coffee. I want to make my birthday wish.” 

“Really?” 

“Yes, it’s a promise I made to my grandfather.” 

“Okay, then, let’s find a café,” Maximus said, standing up and offering his hand to help Mary up. 

Maximus brushed the sand off himself and noticed that she was covered in it too. He felt tempted to help her, but she was wearing a small pleated skirt that showed off her legs. He didn’t want her to misinterpret his actions, so he just pointed out where the sand was They walked back to the area with shops, carrying their shoes in their hands. Anyone who saw them would think they were a lovely couple. Despite the age difference, Maximus dressed casually didn’t look as old as he felt.
