Once the tension eased and Maximus left Marcus’s office with a disheveled Alexia, Marcus still held Valerie tightly. She was trembling with anger, clutching the strands of hair she had managed to pull from her rival’s head. Marcus guided his wife to one of the chairs and immediately closed the door leading to the conference room. Taking a deep breath, he walked back toward Valerie, who glared at him with frustration.
“Marcus, that woman wants something with you–I know it!” Valerie said, her voice sharp as her husband approached.
Standing before her, Marcus looked down seriously. “Valeri, do you think I haven’t noticed?”
Valerie raised her gaze to meet his “Then why the hell don’t you stop her?” she demanded, her voice breaking as tears streamed down her face.
Marcus hadn’t expected this. He thought she was simply angry, but seeing her cry tore at his heart.
“Calm down, my love. Please, calm down,” Marcus said as he lifted her out of the chair to embrace her. “Do you honestly think I’d ever be interested in a woman like ber? I have you! You’re the only woman who matters to me- I don’t need to look at anyone else.”
Marcus held Valerie tightly as she sobbed into his chest.
“I was scared,” Valerie whispered through her tears. “I’m afraid she’ll take you away from me. Marcus, if I lose you, I don’t know what I’d do. I don’t know how our children would handle it…”
Marcus couldn’t understand where her insecurities were coming from. Valerie was far more beautiful and younger than Alexia. Why would she feel this way? But he chose not to question his lioness in distress.
“Valerie, don’t think such things. I’d never get involved with someone like her. Tell me something–in all these 15 years, have I ever given you a reason to think I could betray you?” Marcus asked, gently tilting her chin to look into her tear–streaked face.
Valerie’s watery eyes met his. “No. But you don’t know her She’s capable of using the lowest tricks. And besides, she’s older than me and has more…” Valerie faltered, her voice laced with frustration.
She had been about to say Alexia was more experienced. Sometimes, Valerie felt like a girl compared to Marcus’s age and worldly demeanor, which only deepened her intimidation.
“Valerie, you are my wife. I married you because I love you, because I want you, because you’re the most beautiful, intelligent, strong, kind, and sexy woman I know I don’t need to mess with other women–I have everything I need with you,” Marcus said, pulling her into a passionate kiss.
Meanwhile, in the CEO’s office, the atmosphere was far from tranquil.
“Alexia, what the hell were you thinking?” Maximus demanded angrily.
“She attacked me!” Alexia shot back.
“What the hell were you doing in Marcus’s office?”
“I was just dropping off some documents I hadn’t reviewed with him!”
Alexia, I don’t believe you. You’re up to something else.”
“What are you implying?”

“You know exactly what I’m saying. I know you, Alexia. The fact that I turn a blind eye most of the time is one thing, but this? This is different.”
“I’m the victim here, and now you’re calling me the provocateur?”
“I’ll say this once: stay away from Marcus. He’s not like the idiot men you usually entangle yourself with,” Maximus said, his tone low and threatening.
