After ending the call with the bodyguard, Marcus returned to the table where Alexia and the client were waiting. Minutes passed, but he couldn’t shake his unease. He knew how difficult it was for Valerie to visit that place, and he was about to excuse himself when his phone vibrated. The screen lit up with photos sent by one of the bodyguards, and Marcus’s expression turned cold as ice.
Without hesitation, Marcus stood up and apologized, explaining that he had a personal matter to attend to and couldn’t continue the dinner. He left swiftly, not giving Alexia a chance to stop him.
Once in the car, he called the bodyguard.
“What the hell is that man doing there?” Marcus asked, his voice stern.
“I don’t know, sir. But the missus ran into him, and she asked me not to follow her. Knowing how cautious y
s you are about that family, I sent the photos immediately,” the bodyguard replied.
“Good. Keep an eye on her. I’m on my way and shouldn’t take more than twenty minutes,” Marcus said, pressing the accelerator.
His mind raced as he drove. The photos stirred countless thoughts. Valerie’s expression wasn’t one of anger–on the contrary, the look she gave Maximus irritated Marcus deeply. Coincidences happened, but this… this felt far from a coincidence.
As he neared the cemetery, he spotted a familiar car and the silhouette of Maximus Palmer. He clenched the steering wheel tightly. Maximus had been with his wife. But why? Marcus’s anger bubbled to the surface. What the hell did Maximus want with Valerie?
Marcus forced himself to calm down before confronting the situation. He didn’t want to act rashly or make a mistake. He decided to wait and let Valerie explain herself. After a few minutes, she emerged from the cemetery and began walking toward home. To his surprise, she abruptly stopped at a park along the way and got out of the car. Marcus followed her quietly, watching as she sat on a bench and began to cry. His heart sank. Something was clearly wrong.
Seeing her in such distress, Marcus couldn’t stand idly by. He approached her, scooped her
Pas if she were a child, and carried her to his car. Inside, the silence was heavy. Valerie stared out the window, clearly not ready to talk, and Marcus didn’t press her.
As they neared home, Valerie finally broke the silence.
“Marcus, you know how much I love you, don’t you?”
“My love, of course I do! Why would you ask that?”
Seeing the sadness in her eyes, Marcus pulled the car over to the side of the road Valerie turned to him, her gaze unwavering, and suddenly threw herself into his arms, holding him as tightly as her slender frame allowed.
“I love you, Marcus Bartz! You’re the man of my life. Nothing in this world makes me happier than being with you
