Chapter 0033
After leaving Mary in Peter’s care, Catherine headed back to Maximus’s mansion, knowing a heated argument was on the horizon.
Maximus arrived home shortly after.
“Emma, where is Mary?”
“Sir, I’m afraid you’re too late. Mrs. Palmer left with her about 15 minutes ago,” Emma replied, her tone tinged with nostalgia..
“So, she actually did it. Why am I even surprised? I knew my grandmother too well!” Maximus muttered, frustration evident in his voice.
“Do you know me well enough to defy me?” a stern voice interrupted from behind. It was Catherine.
“Grandma, why did you take Mary? I told you I didn’t mind her staying here!”
“I don’t like the idea of you holding something of mine as leverage. Besides, Mary will be much better off with your brother. Peter is more easygoing and can take better care of her.”
“Take care of her? Like he’s taken care of himself?” Maximus scoffed.
“You’re always so negative! If you took the time to get to know your brother, you’d realize how wrong you are. But I won’t force you, just like you can’t force me.”
“It sure seems like you’re trying! You want to force Alexia out of my life.”
“Don’t you dare mention that slut in front of me, you insolent brat!” Catherine snapped, delivering a sharp slap across Maximus’s face. “I’ve turned a blind eye to your flings with other women, but I will never accept that woman into this family. I curse the day my husband ever befriended her grandmother, let alone whatever affair they had.”
Maximus was stunned, both by the force of the slap and the bombshell his grandmother had just dropped. She had never mentioned anything about an affair before. He knew his grandfather, Lawrence Palmer, as a tough and cold man, but he had never imagined him being unfaithful–let alone with Alexia’s grandmother. This revelation explained a lot about why his grandmother was so vehemently against the Levett family.
“Grandma, why didn’t you ever tell me this?”
“Because it’s none of your business! The only thing you need to know is that Mary is no longer your problem, and she won’t be used as leverage again. If you insist on keeping that woman in the company, I’ve decided not to set foot in it again. Remember, I’m the majority shareholder, and any decision that requires my vote, no matter how beneficial to the company, “won’t get it.”
“Grandma! How can you be so unreasonable?”
“Unreasonable? You’re the one causing your grandmother pain, Maximus!”
“You can’t treat the company like your personal toy! Alexia isn’t responsible for what her grandmother did.”

Chapter 33
“Hah! I’ve said what I needed to say. You won’t see meat any more meetings or company events as long as she’s around. Forget about your grandmother and the majority shareholder. In fact, I think it’s time to have a chat with your father and pull him out of his sabbatical. I might even nominate Peter for the presidency. You think you’re so smart and capable, but Peter is also good at business. If you’re not careful, you might be in for a surprise.”
