“Do you really think I’ll fall for your fake concern? You clearly don’t know me as well as you think. I went through hell with your grandfather—humillations, beatings, Infidelities. I fought and endured, knowing that the best I could do was walt for him to die from some illness. In the end, I’d inherit everything he worked so hard for, and I’d be the true master of what the Palmers and the Prestons built. 

“What do the Preston family have to do with this?” 

“See? Peter figured that out ages ago. You’ve been so obsessed with your power that you haven’t even bothered to learn who Mary Preston is or why she’s important to our family.” 

“What are you talking about?” Maximus asked, massaging his temples in frustration. 

“I’ve said enough. Your brother is a better Palmer than you’ll ever be. You think your father chose you because you were the best fit for the company, but he chose you simply because you were the eldest. There’s nothing special about you. Your position could be filled by any MBA graduate from EMT, Yale, or Harvard.” 

“That’s about enough Grandma! I want you out of my house!” 

“I’m leaving, but you know I’m right. Think about it carefully. Don’t let your lust for Alexia blind you. Any woman can satisfy your physical desires, but a good heart and reason are what truly matter. I’m giving you a year, Maximus. One year where I won’t interfere I won’t attend meetings or block any of your projects. But in that year, you must find a suitable wife and produce an heir for this family. If you choose Alexia, I’ll invoke the clause your grandfather and I signed when we discovered his infidelity. You’ll be exiled and stripped of all the Palmer properties. “Emma, bring me my tea. I need to calm my nerves before I leave!” Catherine raised her voice. 

Emma rushed to prepare a cup of tea. She had always known Catherine to be formidable, but she had never seen her like this. Today, her eyes were filled with malice, coldness, and fury. Whoever crossed her next was in for a world of hurt. 

“Ma’am, please calm down. Mr. Palmer didn’t mean 

“Emma, don’t defend this boy. I’ve given him an ultimatum. Whether he follows through or not is up to him. I’m leaving now. Sorry I won’t be staying for your lovely cooking, but I’m no longer welcome here.” 

“Ma’am…” Emma replied, her voice full of concern, as she watched the old lady walk away, her presence 

back still strong and commanding. It reminded Emma of the night Catherine fought with her husband, when Emma was barely Maximus’s age and still carrying him in her arms. 

Meanwhile, Maximus sat on the couch, one leg crossed over the other, puffing angrily on a cigar. His
