“Peter was the love of my life. I met him when he traveled to St. Petersburg for business. I was upset with my husband at the time, so I went out for a drink, and that’s where I saw him. He was the most handsome man in the room–his dark, intense eyes framed by thick lashes, his light brown skin, and that full, wavy hair. He was a sight to behold. And his sculpted body? Don’t even get me started”
“And what happened with him?”
“That night, we talked. I told him about the dreams of a woman who had no choice but to be the wife of a powerful businessman. Always alone and forgotten, I had grown used to it. I had everything money could buy, but the one thing I didn’t have was love. That kind of love overflowing with passion and desire–that was something my husband couldn’t give me. For him, it was just about money, jewelry, and showing me off to his peers. I have to admit, back then I was gorgeous and vain. My red hair, long, toned legs–I was the envy of many.”
“If Peter was only there on business, how do you end up having a child with him?”
“Simple. I slept with him whenever we could. His body was exquisite, and I savored every moment by his side. Even though it was just sex without love, for me, it was like a dream. He knew how to treat a woman–anyone could fall in love with Peter Palmer. I doubted it at first, but I believed it when I found out Peter was with his brother’s ex–wife. She was lucky. Peter never wanted anything serious with anyone, but with her? Oh, God. He was in love.”
“He was involved with his brother’s wife? Are you telling me Peter stole a woman from the famous Maximus Palmer?”
“I don’t know the full story. All I know is the last thing he told me–that he was starting a life with someone named Mary Preston. I’ll never forget her name. That woman was pregnant with Peter’s child. He told me, and for that reason, I never wanted to go near him again.”
“Why didn’t you tell him about Alden?”
“I didn’t see the point. Why? To tie myself to someone who didn’t love me again? No, no. I’d been through enough of that. My son didn’t deserve to suffer with a father who didn’t love me and would see him as a burden, as the reason he wasn’t with his true love.”
“Katherine, I think you should have told him. Maybe you wouldn’t have so many worries about Alden now.”
“Alden is reckless. He’s just like me. Physically, he may look like Peter, but when it comes to being headstrong and rebellious, that’s all me.”
“I still think he should’ve known. Your son is a grown man now and his spitting image, except he’s fair–skinned like you.”
“You know, it hurt so much to hear that he died. And to find out it wasn’t an accident like everyone said. For a moment, I thought my husband had him killed, but he was too busy with his new wife to even care about me anymore.”
“Did anyone ever find out who killed him?”
“Yes, we recently found out, and Alden didn’t take it well. He wants to break that bitch’s neck.”
“Are you talking about Mary?”
“No! She disappeared from the radar after Peter died. The bitch responsible for his death wasn’t Mary–it was Maximus Palmer’s current wife. Her name is Alexia Levett, That damn woman ended my darling Peter’s life.”
