Chapter 0363 

Maximus still hadn’t shaken off the feeling left by that beautiful drearm. As fie walked through the mansion’s halls, it was as if he were experiencing déjà vu or living in parallel dimensions. Though the mansion looked different, every step brought glimpses of his ex–wife’s silhouette and the faint scent of her perfume. Her voice still echoed in his cars. He quickly pushed those thoughts aide–he had to go to the company. He had called Alden, the young man who, despite only recently entering his life, held the answers to many of his lingering questions. 

Maximus took a shower and dressed casually for the first time ever to visit the company. He had no time to waste -he needed to have a long, serious talk with Alden. Before leaving, he left a note on his bedside table, promising his daughter he’d be back soon and that he was headed to the company. 

Driving like a man possessed, Maximus felt a dull ache in his heart. He needed to stay calm–he couldn’t afford another outburst like last night. In this life, it was certain that Mary would never be his again. Maybe in another life, he had done things better, but in this one, he had to face the consequences of all the harm he’d caused–and allowed Alexia to cause–in his misguided pursuit of creating a family for his children. 

After a short drive, Maximus arrived at the company. At the reception desk, a handsome young man was speaking with the receptionist. 

“Alden. There’s no need to check in. Come, we need to talkimmediately,” Maximus said in a tone that left no Toom for argument. 

Alden smiled at the receptionist and followed Maximus. They stepped into the elevator, and an awkward silence filled the space until the chime announced their arrival at the correct floor. Maximus was the first to step out, motioning for Alden to follow him down the hall. Alden glanced at the corridors of what had once been the great Palmer empire. Nostalgia and emotion swept over him, a mix of feelings he couldn’t fully describe. He was nervous, unsure of how his uncle would react to the information he’d uncovered. 

Alden knew there were only two outcomes: either Maximus would side with him against Alexia and work to bring down the Levett family, restoring the company to its former glory, or he would reject the truth, forcing Alden to bury him and anyone else who got in his way. 

“Alden… I’ve reviewed the contents of the USB, and I have several questions,” Maximus began. 

“Tell me, Uncle, what’s there to question? Isn’t it all very clear? Your wife killed my father, and she needs to pay,” Alden replied coldly, his gaze sharp. 

Alden’s once–calm demeanor turned icy, his face unreadable. Maximus had no idea what was going through the young man’s mind 

“Where did you get this information? I had my wife investigated, and nothing like this evercame up,” Maximus asked, his curiosity piqued. 

“Uncle, I can call you that, right?” Alden said, his tone serius. “When you investigated your wife, my father’s name came up, and I have people who were waiting for the day this would surface. Back then, when my father died, you chose to bury the investigation because you didn’t want any scandals tarnishing the company’s reputation. 

At the time, I was just a three–year–old kid. But now? You won’t be able to stop me. You’re my uncle, and I admit 

I got caught up in the emotion of meeting you yesterday. But don’t think for a second that I’ll go easy on your wife.” 

“How do you want to proceed? Will you report her? Hand over the investigation to the police?” Maximus asked,
