When Alden saw how much his mother was suffering from the revelations, he nearly made the mistake of revealing that his father was alive. He had to bite the inside of his lip to stop himself, clenching his fists so tightly that his palms bore the marks. The pain was almost unbearable. After tucking his mother into bed, he went to the study and called Zander. Using his mother’s name, he ensured that Maximus wouldn’t receive the full investigation. The details about Peter had to remain hidden. If Maximus discovered them, there were only two possible outcomes: he’d either cover for his wife or destroy her, and neither option was favorable for Alden.
Alden’s goal was clear: to find and destroy the woman who had forced his father to live in the shadows, robbed of his memories. He wanted to avenge the tears his mother had shed and ensure that Alexia Levett paid for her crimes. Perhaps, if not for her and her grandfather, Alden might have grown up knowing a different Peter.
“Zander, I know what I’m about to ask is unethical, but I don’t want Maximus Palmer to get the full investigation. Name your price, and I’ll pay it–every penny,” Alden said with resolve.
“Mr. Palmer, you know this could get me into serious trouble with your uncle, right?” Zander replied, his tone calm and measured.
“I know. But if you weren’t interested in compensation, you wouldn’t have shown my mother anything to begin with,” Alden countered, unwavering.
“You’ve got me there. How much are you willing to pay, Mr. Palmer?” Zander asked, intrigued.
“The sum can include at least six zeros, whatever you decide,” Alden replied firmly. “But know this–if you know my mother, you know I don’t tolerate games. I want the full investigation. You’ll only give my uncle the parts I authorize. The rest, you’ll hand over to me the next time we meet.”
“I can load everything onto a USB. Most of the information is digital anyway. I can prepare it now, and all you need to do is transfer the payment,” Zander said, his interest clearly piqued.
“My mother is asleep, so I can’t leave the house right now. Meet me here in an hour. Once I verify the contents, I’ll transfer the payment to the account you provide,” Alden instructed.
“Very well, Mr. Palmer. We have a deal,” Zander said with a cheerful tone.
As promised, Zander arrived within the hour, bringing two USB drives. One contained the full report; the other he.d a redacted version meant for Maximus. After Alden transferred the agreed sum, he carefully placed the USB for his uncle in an envelope. The second USB, holding the unfiltered truth, he stored in his briefcase with the intention of showing it to Peter. Perhaps seeing the report might spark some of his father’s memories.
As Alexia Levett drove toward her lavish mansion, oblivious to what lay ahead, two figures were closing in on her. She didn’t know it yet, but they would soon be her downfall One would say, “Jump!” and the other would ask, ” How high?” There would be no earthly power to save her.
But someone beat Alden to the punch. Maximus, upon learning of his wife’s treachery, burned with rage and confronted her. He wanted nothing more than to strangle her with his own hands. But in the end, he hesitated, giving her enough time to flee. She didn’t get far, though. Alden and his men were close behind, tracking her every
move.
A fatal accident wasn’t part of Alden’s plan. He wanted to torment Alexia mentally–appear occasionally, haunting her with his uncanny resemblance to Peter, making her feel his presence. But as she sped down the road in her sports car, pursued by Alden, Ignatius, and another bodyguard, she lost control and crashed into the guardrail.

Chapter 0382
The bodyguard reached the wreckage first and found that Alexia was still alive. He relayed the news to Alden, who made a fateful decision: if she survived, her life would never be the same. If she died, at least she would have suffered as Peter had during his own crash. Deep down, though, Alden leaned toward the first option–making her live through the consequences of her actions.
Peter and Theodore trusted Alden but knew full well that the young man was capable of extraordinary and unpredictable actions. Someone always kept an eye on him. News of Alexia’s accident reached Peter before it reached her husband. Although Peter didn’t remember Alexia clearly, he instinctively felt she had played a role in his downfall. What that role was, he didn’t yet know, but he was certain that, when the time came, either she or her grandfather would have the answers.
“Theodore, I think we need to visit an old friend in Valentia,” Peter said, gazing out the window.
