Chapter 0383
Valerie and Marcus arrived home after a short flight. She had been longing to get back and hug her children. As difficult as it would be, she knew she needed to have an honest conversation with her daughter. Just as she had opened up to Marcus, she now needed to explain everything to her daughter, lay her heart bare, and reveal the reasons for keeping the truth hidden.
As she crossed the threshold of the house, she called out warmly:
“My loves… I missed you so much, but I’m home now!”
What Valerie didn’t expect was to find her daughter with a bruise on her face. Confusion and alarm gripped her, and she rushed over to Serenity and John. For a brief moment, she shot Marcus a sharp, questioning look.
“My girl, what happened? Who did this to you? Marcus, why didn’t you tell me anything?”
“Love… it was an unfortunate incident, but we’re already handling it. I didn’t want to worry you. Yesterday, when it happened, we went to the doctor. She’s on medication now…”
“Wasn’t the security team on duty?” Valerie asked, examining the bruise on Serenity’s mouth.
“We’re still gathering all the evidence, but Serenity was taken by Lucius. Our security was compromised, but I promise it won’t happen again. Both Lucius and Leonardo have vanished, but I’m hunting them down–even under bridges if I have to.”
“Marcus, this is serious. How could they breach security? How can I feel safe letting my children leave the house now?”
“Calm down, Valerie. Look at me,” Marcus said, gently taking her by the shoulders. “I promise you this won’t happen again. Our kids are safe, and I don’t think we’ll see those two anytime soon. I’ve already frozen their company assets.”
“Valerie? Is that you, dear?” came a sleepy voice from the hallway.
“Hi, my sweet Emma! I’m so sorry I didn’t make it home last night. I’m here now–I just needed some fresh air. How are you?”
“I’m ine, sweetheart, but I worry about you. I don’t like it when you don’t come home. It’s dangerous to be out,” Emma said, concern in her voice.
“Don’t worry, Emma. It won’t happen again,” Valerie assured her, lifting little John into her arms.
“How’s my little man doing?” she asked, kissing his cheeks lovingly.
“I’m great, Mommy! I had such an interesting day at school I really like it there, and guess what–they said we’re getting a new classmate soon!”
“Oh, really? That’s wonderful! Be kind to him, just like your classmates have been kind to you.”
“Yes, Miss said he’s from Slovenia! I looked it up on my globe–it’s near here!” John said excitedly.
“Kiddo, Slovenia isn’t that close. You’d need to fly to get there,” Serenity teased, smirking.
“Serenity, don’t tease your brother,” Marcus said, chuckling.
Camille, ever attentive, served coffee and milk for dinner. That evening, the whole family finally enjoyed some much–needed warmth, laughter, and conversation. Later, as Marcus took John to bathe and get ready for bed, Valerie saw an opportunity to speak privately with Serenity!
