After breakfast, Mary rushed to freshen up. Sand had somehow gotten in her hair, and she had no idea how. She hurried as much as she could, and when she emerged, she found Peter casually dressed, looking effortlessly handsome.
“Ready?”
“Yes!”
“Alright, let’s go!”
They headed to the garage, where she noticed Peter’s Impressive collection of sleek black cars.
“Pick one.”
“What?”
“I know you can drive, and you like speed. Today, you te driving. Go ahead, pick one!”
“But… I don’t have an ID.”
“We’ll get that first, and then you can drive.”
“Alright, but no complaints if I’m not great at it.”
Mary chose a Cadillac XT5 parked at the back of the garage. She figured its size would give her more control, and she felt more comfortable in it compared to the other intimidating cars that seemed built for speed.
Peter opened the passenger door for her, helping her in before he got in himself. They drove into the center of Galea, arriving at a sketchy–looking shop. Peter was known there, so they had no trouble getting inside.
“Peter! You’re early. I haven’t finished what you asked for, but if you wait, I can do it right now. Actually, we can take a fresh picture of the young lady.”
“That works. Mary, have a seat. He’ll take your picture.”
Without much choice, she sat down on a stool, and Valentino took her photo. As he glanced at the image on the camera, he said, “Miss, you’re a beautiful woman. Have you thought about becoming a model?”
“No, I don’t think I’m as pretty as the girls in the magazines.”
“Nonsense! You’re stunning. Peter could help you get into the industry. He’s always surrounded by gorgeous models.”
“Mr. Valentino, I wouldn’t let Mary enter that world. She’s too young, and I don’t like how things work there.”
“Well, you’re right about that.” Valentino continued working on his computer.
“Will it take long? We could come back later.”
“No, no, impatient boy. I’m almost done. I started last night, but I couldn’t find a picture that matched.

her features. Now that I’ve seen her, I can work wonders. Young lady, do you prefer blonde or pink hair?”
“What?” Mary asked, suddenly excited.
“Yes, for the ID. I’ll give you a different hair color so you look older and attract less attention. Come closer, take a look.”
Valentino was a master at these tricks, only using them for trusted clients. When Peter asked for a favor, he didn’t hesitate to help.
“I love this one!” Mary said, looking at the blonde version of herself. “It’s perfect!”
“Blonde it is, then! It’ll suit you for the ID.”
“Great! Although the pink is kind of fun too.”
“For the ID, let’s go with blonde,” Peter agreed as he leaned in to see the screen.
“Give me to minutes, and I’ll have it ready.”
Valentino disappeared briefly, returning with the ID in hand.
“All done! From now on, you’re Angela Palmer, a very distant cousin of Peter. Welcome to your new life! Peter, in 24 hours, the name Angela will appear in all the databases. Please use this responsibly.”
“Don’t worry, Valeria. Everything will be fine. Trust Angela.”
“My name will be Angela?”
“That’s right! From now on, you’re Angela Palmer. Your grandfather’s name is Marcus Palmer–I found out during my research. Grandma asked for an ID without telling me who it was for. She just sent me a photo and some basic info to use, so when it came time to make yours, I stuck to that template.”
“Peter, you keep surprising me. Does this mean you’ve been helping us since the beginning?”
“Well, helping might be a stretch. I was just doing Grandma a favor. I didn’t know who it was for–I was just following her instructions.”
“I see. In any case, thank you! Now I know my grandfather is in good hands.”
“Yes, he is. But now we need to go. You have an important appointment.”
Angela looked at him, puzzled by what he meant. They walked back to the car, and once they were inside, they drove to a quaint little shop–a beauty salon.
“Peter, why are we here?”
