“I don’t think so,” Celeste said with a laugh. “Look at us—we’ve been talking for hours, and I’m not bored at all.”
Her words lingered in the air, creating a comfortable warmth between them, one that neither had felt in a very long time.
“Really? You don’t find talking to me boring?” Peter asked raising an eyebrow.
“If I did, I would’ve kicked you out the moment I got out of your car,” Celeste replied with a teasing grin. “You’re an interesting man, Peter!”
Their conversation extended until nearly 6:00 a.m. Celeste’s eyes were heavy with sleep, but Peter remained relaxed, though he couldn’t ignore the rising sun outside the window. With a sigh, he stood up from the couch, stretching slightly.
“Celeste, I need to go. The sun’s already up, and I should get home.”
“You’re right. Time flew by,” she said, standing to walk him to the door. “Well, Mr. Palmer, it seems I didn’t let you get any sleep. The only one who got a good rest was my cat. Thank you–it was an enchanting evening.”
“Thank you. This has been one of the best nights I’ve had in years… Celeste…”
“Yes?” she asked softly, stepping closer to him.
“Do you think we could go out again?”
Celeste met his gaze, her dark eyes warm and playful. She smiled. “Of course. Just let me know ahead of time if you’re planning to take me out to some mysterious, isolated spot, so I’ll know it’s not a trap.”
Peter chuckled, a bit sheepishly. He picked up his jacket and knelt briefly to pet Spike, who let out a soft purr. Then he straightened up, gently took Celeste’s hand, and brushed his lips over it.
“We’ll see each other soon,” he said softly.
That kiss–light and brief–was a compromise. He had wanted to kiss her elsewhere but didn’t want to seem too forward. With that, Peter turned and left the apartment.
As he drove home, a smile lingered on his face. Strange sensations stirred in his stomach, and though he was tired, the night had been more than worth it.
An hour later, Peter pulled into the driveway of his mansion. He noticed a car parked outside, one he didn’t recognize. He assumed it must belong to Darío or perhaps one of Theodore or Alden’s early visitors, as Peter had no scheduled meetings on Saturdays. He got out of his car, collected his jacket, and headed inside, his only plan being a shower and some much–needed sleep.
“Peter? Is that you?” Theodore’s voice called from the living room.
“Yes, Theodore! At least let me shower before you start your interrogation…” Peter grumbled as he started toward
the stairs.
“Peter, I think it’s better if you come to the living room for a moment.”
“Damn it, man! I just need a shower…”
Before Peter could ascend the staircase, Theodore appeared in front of him, his expression serious and slightly
anxious.

“What’s wrong? Look, I know you’re dying of curiosity, but I swear, nothing happened last night. We just went to dinner-”
“Peter,” Theodore interrupted, “I’d love to hear about your night, why you’re disheveled, and why you look like you haven’t slept, but that can wait. You need to come with me. It seems the past has decided to find us… We have an unexpected visitor.”
Peter frowned, noting the sincerity in Theodore’s eyes. With a resigned sigh, he gestured for his friend to lead the
