Marcus had been a week since he last saw Peter, and he still couldn’t shake off the strange feeling of doing something wrong. But he knew that if Valerie found out, it wouldn’t be easy for her to process. Their babies were turning four months old, and even though they’d passed the difficult stage, he couldn’t afford to be careless. 

“Valerie, my love, calm down! Everything will be fine, you’ll see. The little ones are doing well… We’ve followed the instructions to the letter. Stop moving your leg, you’re making me more nervous!” Marcus said, noticing how his wife was a bundle of nerves, 

“Marcus, I still can’t believe we’re going to be parents, and time keeps flying by. The babies are already 4 months old, can you believe it?” Valerle said, gently rubbing her belly, which was already quite noticeable with two little ones inside. 

“Mr. and Mrs. Palmer, please come this way,” Dr. Hill called. “Let’s see how the little ones are doing.” 

With Marcus’s help, Valerie climbed onto the examination table, uncovered her visible belly, and felt the cold gel as the ultrasound machine was moved over her skin. 

“Alright, this time we’re going to do a more thorough check. We’ll measure the baby’s nasal bone and the nuchal fold to rule out any potential issues that we should identify early on.” 

Valerie and Marcus exchanged glances. She squeezed his hand tightly as the doctor moved the device over her belly. 

“Very good, this baby is in a great position, which allows me to take the measurements. Now, let’s check the other little one. This one is asleep, so I’m going to need to move your belly a bit to wake him up. You’ll feel some stronger taps, but don’t worry, it’s just to wake him up.” 

Dr. Hill gently tapped the spot where the sleeping baby was, and after a few minutes, the little one started moving into the right position for the measurements. 

“Would you like to know the gender of both babies?” 

“Yes!” 

“No!” 

“Come on, decide! I know what they are, but maybe knowing the gender will help you prepare,” said Dr. Hill. 

The couple exchanged looks before saying in unison: 

“Yes! We want to know!” 

“Alright, the first baby I measured is a beautiful girl, and the second one, the sleepyhead, is a little boy. You’ll be parents to a girl and a boy! Congratulations! Everything looks great, keep it up, and before you know it, these little. ones will be in your arms.” 

“Are you serious, Doctor?” Marcus asked, surprised. 

He already had John, but he couldn’t imagine a female version of him. Deep down, he quickly hoped she’d inherit all of Valerie’s features. 

“As serious as this adorable belly,” said the doctor, patting Valerie’s stomach 

So, Dr. Hill, my little ones are fine, right?” 

“Yes, that’s right! Valerie, just keep doing what you’re doing, stay calm, avoid stress, don’t push yourself, rest when your body asks for it, eat well, and a little exercise won’t hurt.”

Valerie and Marcus left the hospital still in shock. Time was flying by so fast, and their babies were growing quickly.

“As for our little boy, looks like he’ll be a sleeper. I wonder who he’ll look like more. Our little John took after me, with my hair and features, but I can’t picture how this one will look yet.” 

Valerie listened attentively while craving vanilla ice cream and a slice of pizza. 

“Marcus, do you have to go back to the office?” Valerie asked with doubt. 

“No, my love! Why?” 

“I’m craving pizza with vanilla ice cream. Let’s go get it.”
