Chapter 0471
It was Tuesday afternoon, and Serenity had gone to Jolin’s school to accompany him for his costume fitting for the play. Valerie hadn’t been feeling well that day and had asked her daughter for help. After accompanying him, the driver would take John home since his sister still had some things to do. As she left the school, she saw one of the cafes she liked and decided to stop for a coffee.
While sipping some of the delicious coffee with hazelnut syrup, she scrolled through the photos she had taken of John and Ethan. The young woman smiled as she looked at the faces and poses of both boys.
Peter had a business meeting, and though he disliked dressing formally, this time he had no choice. The men he was meeting with were old–school and had insisted on a dress code for the occasion.
Once the meeting was over, the plan was to wait for Celeste to finish school and take her home. The driver had already picked up Ethan, so Peter could wait as long as necessary. He glanced at his watch and realized it would still be a couple of hours before Celeste finished work, so he decided to go to the nearby cafe.
He entered, ordered his coffee, and before he knew it, the place was full. However, he noticed ari empty seat at the far end of the room. He assumed it was available and walked toward it, planning to send a few emails while waiting for Celeste.
As he reached the “available” table, he didn’t realize someone was already sitting there. When he set the coffee down, he heard a delicate, soft voice.
“Peter… Peter Palmer?”
Peter didn’t know many people, and that voice made him turn. When he did, he froze. Beautiful gray eyes were staring at him. He stood there in silence for a moment, knowing exactly who the woman looking at him was.
“Dad? Is that you?” Serenity said, her eyes filling with tears
Peter quickly sat down, feeling a sharp headache take over. His heart began to race faster than usual, and chills ran down his body. His right hand started shaking, and he felt a suffocating sensation that made it hard to breathe, Serenity, seeing the expression on the man’s face, took his hand and noticed his trembling. She quickly stood up and went to ask for a glass of water. The man loosened his the, feeling like it was tighter than normal. Serenity returned with the water, handed it to him, and he drank it in one gulp. Barely able to speak, he said:
“Outside. I can’t breathe”
Serenity understood when she saw the man’s tie, and without hesitation, she stood up with him. Faster than she had imagined, the man was bent over a trash can. She never would’ve imagined such a reaction, but seeing the man she had believed dead for 20 years, the one she had thought was her father, had left her speechless, only holding his briefcase.
After a few minutes, the man took a handkerchief from his blazer and wiped his mouth. The headache didn’t stop -it was a constant sharp pain that caused dizziness. He tried to calm himself by repeating, “It’s all right,” “It’s over,” “It’s all right.”
“Peter… calm down! Calm down!” Serenity said, noticing the man was having a crisis.
The girl took a bottle of water from her bag and offered it to him. He wiped his mouth, then drank the whole bottle. Slowly, the man began to calm down. After about 20 minutes, with a pale complexion, he caught his breath and looked at the girl who had been taking such good care of him. It squeezed his heart.
“I guess this isn’t the best first impression, is it?” Peter said, massaging his chest and removing his tie
Serenity’s eyes were red and filled with tears. She couldn’t believe that the man she had always believed to be
