After an hour of anxious waiting, Dr. Hill approached them 

“The parents of Laura Palmer?“. 

“That’s me!” Maximus said, standing up quickly. 

“Sir, your daughter is out of danger. The bleeding was caused by an infection. The medical staff told me you’re not sure how far along she is?” 

“No, we just found out yesterday. They gave us a referral for tests, but we haven’t had time to see a doctor yet.” 

“I did an ultrasound. From what I can see, your daughter is about four to five weeks pregnant. At this stage, 

for changes in her body’s pH can lead to infections, so we need to be cautious. She should avoid stress and worry now. Additionally, she needs to start taking folic acid and vitamins. She’s very thin–has she seen a gynecologist yet?” 

“No, I haven’t even thought about that yet. Honestly, the news left me in shock.”

Maximus felt a wave of relief wash over him. Laura and the baby were okay–it had just been a scare. Serenity took his hand in a gesture of support. 

“Thank you, my dear. You should head home. Your parents must be worried. Take the SUV–I’ll have a driver pick us up tomorrow.” 

“Maximus, I’ll go home, but call me if anything happens. You’re not alone in this. She’s my sister, and now, more than ever, she needs all the support we can give her.” 

“Thank you.” 

Maximus hugged Serenity, watching as she left. It felt strange to receive support from her in such an unexpected way. He wished he had been able to offer the same when Mary had lost Peter. It had taken 20 years to uncover the painful truth, but today, amidst all the chaos, it gave him moments of peace. 

As Serenity drove home, her phone rang. It was Marcus. 

“Serenity, sweetheart…”

“I’m at the hospital. I don’t want to worry Emma or Camille, but your mother isn’t feeling well. We’ll be staying
