Chapter 0606
Serenity’s voice softened, her emotions spilling into her words, “I grew up believing Peter was my father. When ! met him, I let everything out–I talked to him, and then I let him go. It wasn’t fair to me, to him, or to Dad, And let’s not even get started on Maximus, who didn’t even know I existed until now.”
“Did you meet Peter? You know him?” Valerie asked, her voice tinged with surprise and unease.
“Yes… I ran into him by accident. He asked me not to tell you. He didn’t want to cause all of this. And now I understand why–he knows you, Mom. He knows how far you can go.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“It wasn’t my decision–it was his. So don’t start blaming the.”
“I’m not blaming you, but I’m asking because it feels like everyone thinks I can’t handle it. And now, you too.”
“Mom… it’s over. Forget it. He’s far away now.”
“Serenity, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to react that way…‘
“Well, now I see why Dad gets upset with you. Just mentioning Peter changes you completely. Valerie, you need help–not from us, but from someone who can truly help you. You can’t keep going like this. Use the time I’m giving you to reflect and seek support. If you don’t, I promise you, our family will break apart.”
“Sweetie…”
“Now you know where I stand and where I’m going. I told you because you’re my mom, and I couldn’t just leave without saying anything. Dad wouldn’t forgive me if I did. But think carefully about what I said.”
Serenity left the study, not angry but resolute. One thing was clear–her mother was fine as long as Peter wasn’t mentioned. But the moment his name came up, everything changed. It was a serious issue, one she needed to discuss with her father. Not now, though–it wasn’t the time or place. But Valerie needed psychological help. She was clinging to the idea of someone who didn’t want to be part of her life anymore.
Serenity had overheard from her sister that Peter was starting a new life with a woman he had met at Ethan’s school–the very same teacher who had saved John during the accident. That detail she chose to withhold from her mother. Valerie wasn’t ready to hear it, and Serenity didn’t want to imagine what her reaction might be.
As Serenity headed toward the door, she spotted Marcus and John playing in the garden. John’s face lit up with a wide smile. Both turned to look at her, and she walked over pulling John into a tight hug.
“Are you leaving to take care of your friend?” John asked, his eyes filled with curiosity
“Yes, but I’ll be back in a few days, okay?” she said, ruffling his hair.
“Okay!”
“Did you talk to your mom? Did you explain why you’re leaving?” Marcus asked, gently brushing his hand against
her cheek.
“Yes, Dad. But you and Mom have a lot to think about. She can’t be alone, and you can’t pretend nothing’s wrong. She needs you now more than ever.”
“I’ll try, my dear… I promise.”
Π
“Thank you, Dad. I love you both so much. I’m just going for a few days–I’ll be back.”
Chapter 0606
“Good. Remember, you have a family here too, young lady,” Marcus said, pulling John into a warm hug.
“I know, Dad.”
