Maximus’s headache throbbed like a hammer against his skill as he navigated through airport security, urgently trying to cut his trip short. Of all days, Leonardo had chosen today to rear his head with that cursed eviction order. As he scrambled to board an earlier flight, chaos was already brewing at Palmer Group office. 

Leonardo sat arrogantly in the president’s chair, his expression one of smug satisfaction. Matthew stood stiffly across from him, maintaining a facade of professionalism while inwardly calculating how to keep the situation from spiraling out of control. Before Leonardo arrived, Matthew had instructed Serenity to remain in her office and not leave until he came to get her. He intended to follow Maximus’s orders to the letter. 

“Mr. Palmer,” Matthew began cautiously, “I’ve already informed Maximus that you’re here. Unfortunately, he’s out of the country and won’t return for a few hours. In the meantime, why don’t you tell me exactly what you need? I see the eviction order, but you’re asking to speak with Maximus directly. Perhaps I can assist you expedite the process.”

Matthew remained impassive, choosing his words carefully “I only aim to serve the family to the best of my ability, sir.” 

“And where is that bastard Marcus Bartz?” Leonardo snapped suddenly, his tone icy. “I heard he’s been skulking around here, taking a position in the company. He should’ve shown his face by now. Where is he?” 

“Marcus has other business ventures to oversee,” Matthew replied smoothly. “Maximus receives his monthly reports from Marcus directly to avoid unnecessary confrontations.” 

“How convenient,” Leonardo sneered. “Marcus was once so eager to seize control of this company. What changed?” 

“Well, as you know, sir, the company isn’t in its best shape. We’ve had significant capital leaks. Marcus provided financial injections to stabilize things, which we’ve been repaying gradually. Even so, the company is still navigating through a rough patch.” 

“All because of Catherine’s incompetence,” Leonardo spat slamming a hand on the desk. “If she’d handed control back to me years ago, none of this would’ve happened.” 

“With all due respect, sir, after Peter’s death, you were in no condition to lead. That’s why Mrs. Catherine returned the presidency to Maximus. Unfortunately, Frank Levett’s mismanagement created further issues…” 

“Speaking of Frank,” Leonardo interrupted, “his son contacted me recently. I’ve been discussing plans with him, and I want him to join the company.” 

Matthew stiffened. “Sir, you’re aware that Frank Levett nearly drove this company into bankruptcy. Now you want his son to work here?” 

“Frank Levett’s son is different,” Leonardo said dismissively. “He’s a visionary who’s spent years living in his father’s shadow. He has ideas that could bring this company back to life, and I have the capital to support his plans.” 

“With all due respect, Mr. Palmer,” Matthew said evenly, you’ve relied on Palmer Group to sustain yourself financially. Where will this new capital come from?” 

Leonardo smirked. “Matthew, pour me some coffee. When Frank’s son arrives, you’ll understand.” 

Chapter 0641 

[Slovenia, Peter’s residence] 

Maximus stood at the airport gate, his phone pressed tightly to his ear. “Peter, your plan better be flawless, because if it’s not, you and Marcus will spend a long time behind bars.” 

“What’s going on, Maximus?” Peter asked, keeping his voice low so as not to wake Celeste, who rested nearby. 

“Leonardo has shown up at Palmer Group,” Maximus said through clenched teeth. “He brought an eviction order. I’m still in Switzerland, but I’m doing everything I can to get back to Valentia immediately.” 

“Maximus, stay calm,” Peter said firmly. “Everything is under control. When you return, speak to Marcus. He needs to understand that what’s about to happen is for the best–for all of us.”
