Chapter 0703 

Maximus had spent the past few days consumed with Peter’s situation at the hospital. Dr. Hill had informed him that Peter had left the country, a decision that worried her greatly. She warned Maximus that the episodes of confusion would persist and that, while he couldn’t make decisions for his brother, they needed to find a way to manage him before something dangerous happened. 

Theodore, seeing the severity of the situation, agreed that Peter needed to be admitted to a facility and that the surgery had to be scheduled. His longtime friend could no longer go on like this; he was a danger to himself and potentially to others. 

To make matters worse, Maximus was blindsided by the news that Frank Levett had taken control of Palmer Group. A week had passed since the announcement, and he still didn’t know exactly how it had happened. Quietly, he’d asked for an investigation into the matter. 

The only person he could trust for this task was Matthew. However, Matthew was still recovering from the injuries he’d suffered during the brutal beating orchestrated by Leonardo. 

Amid the chaos, the question of Leonardo’s whereabouts loomed over everything. How had Frank managed to wrest power from him? The answer had to involve one of the cunning schemes Frank had inherited from his father. Otherwise, how could Leonardo have relinquished control? 

A man entered Maximus’s office, carrying a folder. 

“Sir, here’s the report you requested,” he said, handing it over. 

Maximus took the folder and waved him off. “Thank you. That’ll be all. I’ll reach out if I need anything else.” 

Taking a seat beside Matthew’s hospital bed, Maximus began leafing through the pages. He handed each one to Matthew after scanning it. 

“Frank Levett… He used my name to oust Leonardo from the company? That bastard! I wasn’t even aware of any of this!” 

“Maximus, you need to tread carefully. Your father–in–law has proven far craftier than he seemed. God, how I wish I could recover fully…” Matthew said, his voice tinged with frustration. 

“Matthew, take your time, old friend. It doesn’t matter how long it takes; what matters is that you’re alive.” 

“Ah, Maximus. Sometimes I think I’ve got more lives than a cat, but even I’m starting to feel the weight of it all.” 

“Don’t say such nonsense. You’ve still got many years ahead of you. You’re one of the few people I have left. This- year has felt endless… I’ve gained so much, but I’ve lost just as much.” 

“Don’t complain, Maximus. At least you’re okay. Your brother, though… That’s a real concern. His mind is in chaos. Theodore told me everything, and it’s a complicated situation he’s facing.” 

“That idiot refuses to get the surgery.” 

“Don’t try to force him. I can’t imagine what he’s been through to make him so resistant. It has to be his decision, not yours or anyone else’s. For now, just keep an eye on him. Peter’s not a bad man. Look at what he’s done with his son–Alden’s stepped up in ways no one could’ve expected. Without him, who knows where those kids would be. And Alden’s only 23.” 

“True. I never would’ve thought Peter would raise such a responsible son… But there’s something else that’s been bothering me, Matthew. I haven’t been able to talk to anyone about it.” 

“What is it, Maximus? Don’t keep me in suspense.”
