Gud Wife 709
Chapter 0709
A few hours had passed since Marcus stormed out of the hospital after his heated argument with Valerie. His frustration still simmered, and his mind was set on confronting Maximus. He wanted answers–why Maximus had inserted himself into Valerie’s life and played the role of a good Samaritan.
Marcus wasn’t entirely sure where to find Maximus. Frederick had mentioned that Leonardo had stripped Maximus of the properties that were the Palmer family’s inheritance. However, Frederick also suggested that Marcus might find him at the home of his new girlfriend, Dana Mendez.
Marcus recalled a conversation with Matthew:
“Matthew, is it true that Maximus has someone new in his life?”
“From what I’ve heard, yes. Her name, as I told you, is Diana Mendez. She’s a Hesperian woman who worked for Palmer Group a few years ago.”
“So, Valerie was telling the truth…”
“What’s going on, Marcus?”
“Oh, nothing, my friend. It’s just that Valerie mentioned Maximus several times. I thought it was some ridiculous story, and we argued about it.”
“Marcus… You’ve just gotten out of prison. You have a lot of explaining to do, yet you’re still letting your emotions dictate your actions. Stop making mistakes and give your wife the trust she deserves.”
Back in the present, Marcus stood outside Diana’s apartment, trying to process the idea that Maximus had moved on. He rang the doorbell, and a soft, feminine voice responded.
“Just a second, I’m coming,” said the voice.
Frederick’s words echoed in Marcus’s mind: “Her name is Diana Mendez. She’s a Hesperian woman who worked for Palmer Group a few years ago.”
When the door opened, a petite woman stood before him, her delicate frame catching him off guard.
“Can I help you? Are you looking for someone?” she asked politely.
“Is Maximus here? Maximus Palmer?”
“Oh…” Diana hesitated for a moment.
From inside the apartment, Maximus’s voice called out, “Who is it, my love?”
“You have a visitor, Maximus,” Diana replied.
“Who is it, sweetie?”
“It’s Marcus,” she answered, stepping aside as Maximus quickly appeared in the doorway.
“Come in,” Maximus said curtly, his expression instantly serious.
Marcus stepped inside, still surprised. Diana was small and physically dissimilar to Valerie, but something about her presence–her confidence and warmth–reminded him of his wife.

“My love, can you keep an eye on dinner?” Maximus asked Diana.
“Of course, no problem. If you need more privacy, take him to the study,” Diana suggested with a wink.
“Good idea,” Maximus agreed.
Marcus observed the interaction, the casual intimacy between the two. It was strange to see Maximus like this- comfortable, even domestic.
Maximus turned to Marcus, his expression hardening. “This way.
“I’m following you,” Marcus muttered.
Inside the study, Maximus closed the door and faced Marcus with a no–nonsense demeanor.
“What are you here for, Marcus?”
“I came for answers. First and foremost–where are my children?”
