After Frank Levett had finished speaking with the “friend” who owed him a favor, all he had to do was sit back and watch the misfortune rain down on the Palmer family. It was inevitable that Maximus Palmer would get caught in the fallout. 

The next morning, Marcus Bartz stood in the warehouse where the old Frank was being held. He looked at him and said. 

“I hope you’ve made the right decision, Frank. There’s a reason I’ve kept you alive all these years. Just remember, everything I’ve done to you had a purpose. 

“Now, as for your son… did you give him a reason to do what he did to you? He took your voice, stripped away the last bit of the implacable Frank Levett.” 

Frank could no longer speak. A pen and paper were his only means of communication now, along with nodding or shaking his head. 

‘You’re an idiot, you know that. You should’ve killed me when you had the chance.‘ 

“No, Frank, you’re my ace in the hole now.” 

“What do you want me alive for? I’m useless to you.‘ 

“Oh, Frank, you’re far from useless. Here, I have a statement, one that absolves me of all responsibility for you and your miserable life. And, as a bonus, I’ll help you take revenge on your son. 

This declaration says your son has been enjoying everything you’ve stolen over the years. It claims he cut out your tongue and vocal cords to silence you and that you sought help but no one came–except me, your worst enemy.” 

“You’re unbelievable. What a fool!! 

“It sounds far–fetched, doesn’t it? But once the truth comes out–and trust me, it won’t be long–Anthony Moriarty, that judge who’s after every last trace of the legendary Judge Levett, will ensure your downfall. 

“Before long, you’ll be nothing but a shell of your former self. All you’ll have left is pity. That might help you, but it won’t save you from complete abandonment. If you don’tsign, there are only two options: you die skinned alive by my hand, or your son kills you, which, from what I’ve seen, he’s capable of doing without hesitation. 

you sign, I promise to take care of you until your last breath, just like I’ve done all these years. I shouldn’t- after what you did to me, I should let you rot–but I’m a merciful man. If you sign, I’ll ensure you’re looked after.” 

“You’re scum!” 

“And you’re the worst of murderers… Don’t forget that.” 

After their brief exchange, one of Marcus’s men entered the room and whispered something into his ear. 

Whatever he said made Marcus storm out of the room in a fory. 

“Read the whole statement to him and make sure he signs it. Once it’s done, load him into one of the cars and let me know. Afterward, take him to the address I sent you.” 

“Yes, sir!”

Marcus walked briskly to another room, where his old friend from Hesperia was waiting. 

“What the hell’s going 

ou, my friend? Weren’t you looking for Peter?” 

“No need to keep searching. Look where he is,” Marcus said, pointing to the news on the screen.

“How the hell do you expect me to keep a cool head? My wife is in that damn hospital. Dr. Hill refused to let me take her, and now I see why. They all thought they could make a fool out of me!” Marcus shouted, furious at the thought that Valerie and Peter might have already crossed paths. 

“Marcus! Calm down, or you’re going to have a heart attack” Michael yelled, trying to rein him in. 

Marcus grabbed the chair in front of him and smashed it against the wall. He was fuming, unable to stop cursing and feeling like an idiot. 

“Michael, make Frank sign the damn document and then take him to that nursing home you found. The one far from everything. He can’t disappear. Pay whatever it takes, but make sure he’s well looked after and under strict watch.” 

“Understood, my friend. But please, calm yourself. Don’t do anything reckless.” 

“Reckless? Reckless is what Maximus just did. He thought it was a good idea to bring his brother to the same hospital as my wife. I don’t need to be a genius to figure out–find out how long Peter has been there!”

While all these events unfolded in Valentia, in Slovenia, Celeste was slowly coming to terms with the fact that something was going on with Peter. 

He could be the perfect man when he was by her side, but when he left, he would disappear for long periods. The last time, he’d made it clear he didn’t want to see her and even asked for her to be taken away. Celeste could no longer turn a blind eye to the situation. 

She waited for Peter’s return, determined to talk things over like the adults they were. If he wanted to end the relationship, if she hadn’t turned out to be what he expected, or if everything Peter had done was just out of gratitude, it was better to face it. For the sake of whatever they’d once shared, they should part on good terms. 

“Miss Celeste, you must eat something. You’ve barely touched your food these past few days,” said Brock, watching her closely.
