Chapter 0757
BUNUS
Peter had been in his office for a long time, struggling with what was on his mind and what he was truly feeling. He realized that by not answering the questions Celeste had asked him, he was confirming whatever she might be thinking, and quickly he stood up from his chair and went to the room he shared with the woman.
Celeste had fallen asleep, and when he entered, he saw her small body lying on the bed. He felt a sharp pang of remorse and couldn’t hold back anymore. He moved closer to her, lay down beside her, and embraced her.
“I’m sorry! I’m really sorry I couldn’t answer the questions you asked me earlier.”
“Celeste, I just want you to know that in these months I’ve been with you, you’ve made me happy. No matter how difficult things got, you made me happy. You make me feel alive again.
“I know what you heard, but I’m still not ready to talk about it. She’s part of my past, and my memories are all jumbled right now. She isn’t doing well, and I just complicated her life. I know you won’t believe me, but you matter to me, and I need you.”
Celeste heard all of this. He no longer smelled like the perfume of that woman, but it was evident something had happened between them, even though he told her to trust him. The truth was, she no longer knew what to believe. She didn’t know who she was really talking to anymore. His gaze seemed lost, and his embrace didn’t have the same warmth it once did.
“Peter, I really want to believe you, but honestly, I think this isn’t working.
“You’re not fully here, and I can see it in your tormented eyes. I don’t know who she is, but what I can tell you is whatever is happening, I hope you can fix it.” Celeste said, trying to pull his arm away.
Seeing her reaction, he quickly pulled her closer and kissed her passionately. She wanted to resist, she thought about it for a moment, but the part of her that was still in love with him just let herself go. The kiss deepened, leading them to other things. Celeste knew what she was doing wasn’t right, but a part of her wanted to believe in all of this. Still, her rational side told her she was making a huge mistake.
Peter quickly removed his clothes and took Celeste’s body into his, making her his. It had been months since he’d seen her, and dear God, she looked beautiful. She was what he needed; she was the only one who could calm his mind, the only one who could silence the voices in his head.
Celeste wasn’t foolish, and she could clearly see and feel what Peter was going through. He was showing his need for her. He kissed every part of her body with adoration, his hands exploring every inch of her skin. That night, she forgot the pain she was feeling and let herself be carried away by every kiss, caress, and entotion he gave her.
After a few hours, Peter got up to take a shower. Celeste was fast asleep. He looked at her with love, unable to believe that she was the one who calmed his anxiety. She clearly didn’t deserve the confusion he was in. Mary was his past, and Celeste was his present.
When Celeste woke up, she noticed that Peter wasn’t in the bed. She got up and searched for him, but he was nowhere in the house. A pang hit her chest again. Once more, the man who had claimed to love her had left.
“Brock, have you seen Peter?” Celeste asked uncertainly.
“The sir had to leave for meetings, but he’ll be back later.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, Miss Celeste, don’t worry.”
Celeste noticed something odd in Brock’s expression, but she couldn’t figure it out. Something inside her told her he was lying, but she preferred to deceive herself. How could Peter leave after saying all those things to her last
night? How could he leave after spending the night with he and clearly being the one she was with?
As the night approached, Celeste understood perfectly that Peter wasn’t coming back. She realized he had only lied to her. He had probably gone to find the woman he was so worried about.
“Miss Celeste, the sir told me he had to travel for work. He’ll be back in a couple of days, so don’t worry. He always keeps his word when it comes to the time he’ll be away.”
“Brock, tell me something–how much do you believe in Peter?”
