Chapter 0758 

As Peter returned to Slovenia, Maximus made the decision to bring Mary with him. The only way he could ensure she was safe in case of a relapse or a run–in with Marcus was to have her at Magnus‘ house. He didn’t know why Marcus had left her stranded at the psychiatric hospital, but he knew it wasn’t safe for her to be alone. 

Although this decision wasn’t particularly comfortable for Diana, she couldn’t blame Maximus. Mary had been an important part of Maximus’s life, and aside from being the mother of his child, he felt responsible for her. Diana tried to understand this and kept her thoughts to herself. 

The following morning, Maximus prepared to go pick up Mary. Perhaps during the drive, they could talk about what had happened. With this in mind, he left Magnus‘ house. After a couple of hours, he arrived at the hotel where Mary was staying 

Mary was getting ready to go look for Marcus. She had tried calling him several times without success. Now his number was off. After a few more attempts to reach Camille, she decided to go downstairs and return to her home in Westhaven. She thought she might find some clue about where Marcus and the children could be. As she was thinking this, a few knocks on the door broke her concentration. 

She stood up, not expecting anyone. As far as she knew, she was alone, and no one was supposed to be looking for her. Thinking it was likely the housekeeping staff, she opened the door and found Maximus standing there. 

“Hello, Mary. Sorry I couldn’t come yesterday. How was your night?” 

“Maximus… All good, thanks for the help,” Mary said, letting him in. 

“I came to see you because… I think it would be better if you came with me. It’s not safe for you to be here alone,” Maximus said cautiously. 

Maximus walked over to the window, looking out at the view it offered. 

“Maximus, I want to go find Marcus and my children. He was very upset yesterday, and I couldn’t talk to him, but I need to. He wants to take my children from me…” Mary said, her worry clear. 

“Mary, what’s going on? Marcus called me yesterday, and he sounded… upset, to say the least.” 

“Marcus… He… I did something unforgivable. He’s angry with me and with Peter.” 

“Yes 11 

you don’t need to tell me that! I had to hear how furious he was…” 

“What did he say?” 

“Nothing… Nothing important, but he sounded really angry with Peter… What happened?” 

“I kissed Peter.” 

“Mary… Why did you do that? Are you thinking of going back to my brother?” 

“No! It was stupid, I didn’t think about the consequences, and no, I don’t want to go back to Peter. It’s just that…” Mary said, clearly nervous. 

“Hmm… That explains a lot, Mary, I don’t know where Margus or Camille are, but what I can tell you for sure is that both Peter and your husband are involved in a big problem. I’m sure if Marcus wants to leave the country, it’s not because of what happened yesterday, but because of what’s going on now.” 

“Maximus, what’s happening?” 

“Well, I don’t want to overwhelm you with problems, but I need to be honest. Peter was sent to Slovenia. We sent him to his house. He’ll be safe there, and Celeste is with him. She can take care of him.”

“Celeste?” 

“Yes, Mary, she’s his current partner. I trust she can take care of him, but knowing my brother, I don’t know how much Celeste knows about Peter’s condition.” 

“Maximus, what condition?” Mary asked, her voice filled with confusion. 

Maximus noticed the look of bewilderment on her face and took a deep breath before speaking. 

“Mary, Peter isn’t well. I only found out recently. It hasn’t been long. My brother, when he had the accident, hit his head. His skull was fractured, and… well, you can image what happens when that happens.” 

Mary froze, her expression turning to one of terror.
