Sawyer stood before his desk, observing Alex’s darkening face, and he felt a bit nervous. “Mr. Elysian, is there any issue with the contract?” 

He had come to deliver the contract, but Alex’s face had turned unpleasant immediately upon 

receiving a text message. 

Uncertain about his mood, Sawyer hesitated before saying. “The matter regarding this exhibition. isn’t finalized yet. Aether Corporation can choose not to participate.” 

The contract came from Dream Search, passed through their representative, and was now delivered here. As long as everything was fine on their end, they could sign the contract without a 

hitch. 

Alex remained silent, a heavy pressure brewing between his brows. After a moment, he suppressed the coldness he held. 

However, he didn’t look at the contract Sawyer brought. Instead, he stood up, his voice cold, “What 

about the information I asked you to find?” 

“Webrews Group’s sudden rise was due to several top–level individuals besides Francis having previous connections with Aether Corporation. It seems like he has been using Aether 

Corporation’s name to collaborate with some companies.” 

Alex’s dark eyes narrowed. “Exploiting Aether Corporation’s name?” 

“Yes.” Sawyer nodded. “Since he left Aether Corporation, he’s been in contact with some mid–level managers here. This time, for Dream Search, he contacted Stewart for external sales.” 

Although Sawyer didn’t understand why Alex had suddenly ordered him to investigate Francis, the findings surprised him. A person who had left the company still had such extensive ties with Aether Corporation’s internal management. It was truly frightening upon deeper reflection. 

Alex’s face remained emotionless. He coldly dismissed Sawyer. 

Before leaving, Sawyer hesitated but still mentioned, “Mr. Elysian, Ms. Summer is waiting outside.” 

It had been long after working hours. When he entered, Sonia had requested him to convey her. 

message to Alex. 

Aloy’s expression didn’t change. “Tell her to go home. I have matters to attend to.” 

However, as soon as Sawyer opened the office door, he almost collided with a distressed–looking 

Sonia. 

He hesitated but didn’t intervene. 

Looking at Alex who remained expressionless and focused on work, Sonia bit her lip, approaching slowly. “Alex, you’ve been so busy lately.” 

Her words carried a hint of pitifulness. She sensed his recent aloofness. Every time she tried to approach him, he always had work to excuse himself. 

The more she thought about it, the more uncomfortable she felt. However, she didn’t display it on her face. She took a few steps forward, tugging at his sleeve. 

“Alex, if there’s anything about me that makes you unhappy, just tell me directly. Don’t ignore me like this. Even if you want to break up, you should tell me directly.” 

Alex hesitated for a moment before without much emotion, saying. “The company is just busy 

recently.” 

“Then, you don’t have to arrange a birthday party for me. I mean, it’s not necessary-” 

“The date has been set.” Alex took out a bank card from a nearby drawer and pushed it toward Sonia. “Buy whatever you like.” 

Sonia stared at the card and hesitated, but as she saw Alex lowering his head to work on the 

documents again, she bit her lip, her face returning to its obedient and understanding demeanor. 

Feeling uneasy, she nodded. “I’ll go home now. My mom is waiting for me.” 

“Let Sawyer take you home,” he said without looking up. 

Although Sonia agreed on the surface, once Sawyer dropped her off downstairs, she declined his 

offer and hailed a cab herself. 

Not long after getting into the taxi, she clenched her lips and made a phone call. When the call. connected, she adjusted her tone and spoke softly. “Sieg.” 

On the other end, Sieg was out drinking with friends. When he heard Sonia’s voice, his eyebrows raised slightly, a nonchalant expression on his face. “What’s up? Why are you looking for me?” 

Sonia’s heart skipped a beat. She wasn’t particularly close to Sieg, but they had interacted a couple of times privately because of Alex. 

She always found him more approachable than the others. 

Her voice was low. “Has Alex been busy lately?” 

Hearing the probing tone in her voice, Sieg sneered casually, “I’m not related to Aether 

Corporation. How would I know? But you can ask Candice; after all, she’s met him.” 

The list of companies Candice had compiled had similar endings with no definite responses. 

After they learned about the situation, despite their worry, they couldn’t think of a solution. 

When Yana heard about it, she suggested that Hanley go back to the Baldwin family. 

However, as soon as she finished speaking, she realized it wasn’t appropriate and quickly changed the subject. 

Candice didn’t understand Hanley and the Baldwin family’s relationship well. She attempted to contact a collaborator, but their response remained vague. 

Yana brewed a few cups of coffee, handing one to Candice as she whispered. “Hanley is just too 

stubborn. If only he’d humble himself and go back to the Baldwin family, there wouldn’t be any 

unresolved matters.” 

“But thinking about it, with what happened to Ning Natasha due to the Baldwin family’s pressure, 

Hanley must hold resentment toward them.” 

This statement made Candice glance sideways, but Yana seemed to realize her slip of the tongue 

and hastily made some random excuses before hurrying downstairs. 

Left alone, Candice watched her departing figure, lost in thought. 

Things seemed to have reached a stalemate. In the afternoon, Hanley returned with a displeased 

expression. 

He had gone back to the department in the morning and came back with some terrible news. “The exhibition has been rescheduled and the date moved up.” 

This also meant their dealings with Dream Search would be advanced. 

The atmosphere in the villa was heavy. Hanley had been in the study since morning, claiming to 

be optimizing plans. 

Candice’s emotions didn’t fluctuate much. Seeing the visibly upset faces of Nadia and the others, 

she had already made up her mind. 

Taking her bag, she declared, “I’m going out.” 

When she arrived at Aether Corporation, it wasn’t yet closing time. Candice took out some documents from her bag, appearing professional, and went in directly. 

But just as she reached the front desk, someone intercepted her. “Hello, do you have an 

appointment?”

About to speak, she heard a crisp voice beside her. “Candice, what brings you here again?” 

The emphasis on “again” was apparent. Candice turned to see Sonia. 

She was dressed in a white professional suit, wearing high heels, with a rehearsed smile on her face. “Candice, there’s a new rule at Aether Corporation. Unauthorized people can’t casually enter the company.” 

Candice looked at her. “I have urgent matters.” 

“Candice, this is a company rule. There’s no need to give the receptionist a hard time.” Sonia glanced at Candice and remembered the words she had heard from Sieg last night, making her a bit more bitter. “You used to work at Aether Corporation, so you naturally know that many unscrupulous people take advantage and cause trouble. These people have thick skin and love to pester, making it hard to deal with.” 

Her words were nearly pointed, clearly a jab at Candice.
