Chapter 0292
As Candice returned she heard Alex’s words. She paused at the door for a moment before she pushed it open and entered.
Seeing her return, the old man passed a menu over. “Candy, why don’t you take a look and see what you’d like to eat?”
Candice did not decline. She ordered two dishes but when they were having their meal, she did not have much of an appetite.
On the other hand, the old man was In a good mood and ate quite a bit. It was only when Candice was worried that he might have indigestion that she stopped him from eating more.
He looked at Candice, who barely touched her food. “Candice, is the food not to your liking?” he asked, concerned. “It’s my fault. I ordered according to my own taste.”
“It’s not that,” Candice assured him. “I’ve been wanting to watch my figure recently, but the food is delicious.”
The old man’s expression turned stern, as he said in displeasure. “You’re already so thin, there’s no need to watch your figure. It doesn’t look good. A young girl should eat more for good health.”
Under his supervision, Candice reluctantly drank half a bowl of soup.
After finishing the meal, the old man felt sleepy and wanted to go home to rest.
Reluctant to part with Candice, he said, “Candy, I won’t be leaving Dorrington anymore after coming back. You should come and spend time with me when you are free. I like your personality. unlike Lex, who always makes me angry.”
Candice allowed him to hold her hand and whispered, “I will, Grandpa.”
When they were leaving, the old man signaled to the caregiver, who came over with the bag containing the emerald jewelry. “Miss Renault, this is a gift from the old gentleman,” the caregiver said. “He specifically went to Anderes to choose this gift. If you refuse, he’ll be very disappointed.” At this point, even though Candice wanted to refuse, it was almost impossible for her to do so. She could only accept it hesitantly and prepare to find a time in the future to return it to the old
man.
Seeing that she accepted the jewelry, the old man, leaning on his cane, slowly approached.
With a serious expression, he reminded Alex. “Lex, you brought Candy here, so you’re responsible for sending her back home.”
SONOUSI
Alex was still looking at his phone with his head down. He responded with a casual acknowledgement upon hearing the old man’s words.
The old man frowned, about to get angry again. “Did you hear what I said?”
Alex put away his phone, his expression Indifferent, about to say something, when Candice spoke. “You should go back now. The sun will be too strong later.”
The old man’s intentions were too obvious–he wanted to bring Alex and her closer together.
After watching the old man leave, Candice’s earlier smile disappeared completely. She turned to Alex and said. “I’ll get a ride back by myself.”
Alex had rolled up his shirt sleeves while eating, and now he looked at Candice carrying the emerald jewelry with a mocking tone. “You’ve just received a set of jewelry, and you’re already. eager to show it off everywhere?”
Candice was slightly stunned. “If you mind it so much, why didn’t you stop your grandfather just
now?”
Alex sneered. “Would it have been effective if I had stopped him?”
Candice couldn’t be bothered to say more. She took out her phone to hail a ride.
The hint of mockery on Alex’s face faded. He lowered his eyes, hiding the thoughts within. After a moment, he lifted his gaze, and his eyes were pitch black. His voice carried an emotion that was hard to decipher. “That jewelry set is worth a million dollars.”
Candice frowned hard. She looked at Alex and asked with anger in her tone. “What do you mean?”
Alex’s emotionless gaze fell on her face. In that brief moment of eye contact, Candice felt like she saw the depth of his eyes, and a cold shiver ran down her spine.
“Since you’re so upright, it’s better to avoid meeting him in the future,” he said coldly. “He wishes to give the entire Elysian family to you.”
Alex’s tone made
dice very uncomfortable. He was the one who had arranged for her to meet
the old man, but now was portraying her as someone greedy for the old man’s wealth.
Candice’s chest heaved in anger. She looked at Alex with an increasingly cold gaze and said, Alex, you really have a knack for shifting blame.”
Alex frowned. Looked away from Candice and walked off.
Standing in place, Candice still held the emerald jewelry and the old gifts she had intended to return to the old man.
She looked around, planning to find a shaded soot to wait for her ride. As she glanced about the saw a figure flash by. Xavier? Candice frowned slightly. Why would Xavier be here? And why was he acting so sneakily? It seemed as if he had quickly hidden when he noticed her
As she pondered this, a car horn sounded behind her, and the instinctively took two steps backs
familiar Maybach stopped in front of her. She knew what Alex wanted, but she did not move and
she called for her own ride.
The car window rolled down. Alex’s emotionless voice rang out. “Get in.”
“I will go back on my own.”
Alex’s dark eyes turned cold as he stared at Candice. “Do you feel like you’ve gained some
backing because the old man is back?”
Candice’s expression also turned cold. She said in a deep voice, “Alex, there is no need for you to
imagine that everyone is as inconsequential as you.”
“I’m inconsequential?” Alex’s eyes were deep and dark, and his well–defined features forceful
It seemed like Alex wanted to say something more, but his phone on the center disclay suddenly rang–a work–related matter. The emotions surging in Alex’s eyes were instantly suppressed.
