Candice had never expressed her dislike and hatred for Sonia so directly in front of Alex. However, the pain and anger that had been suppressed in her heart couldn't be contained when she thought about her grandfather's death and Sonia's unrepentant and arrogant attitude.
Her grandfather’s death couldn't be treated as a simple past event. The mistakes made by Sonia had to be repaid. Even if Alex wanted to protect her, Candice wouldn't let him off easily.
It was a matter of justice. Why should someone who had committed wrongdoing go unpunished?
Candice lifted her head, locking eyes with Alex without flinching. His eyes were like a silent and deep sea, concealing a storm within.
After a moment, Alex looked away, his expression complicated. In a low and deep voice, he spat, "As you wish."
His words carried indiscernible emotions.
He left, while Candice stood at the doorway for a moment before re-entering her room.
A timely call from Yana interrupted her thoughts.
Yana said over the phone, "I heard Hanley is going to Solaris to be with you."
Candice corrected her. "He's coming to order materials."
Yana chuckled. "It’s the same thing. The point is that he’s going to Solaris. Anyway, I'm so bored in Dorrington. How about I go to Solaris to keep you company? I've got nothing to do here!"
The incident of Yana getting drunk because of her engagement with Mason had never been brought up again. It was as if it had never happened.
Candice looked at the darkening sky outside and replied with a smile, "The weather in Solaris hasn't been great lately. You might be better off in Dorrington."
Yana groaned. She chatted with Candice for more than ten minutes before hanging up.
Just then, Candice’s takeout arrived, She opened the door to find a tall, slender young man in black sportswear and a yellow vest.
Candice frowned slightly as the young man, wearing a black baseball cap with the brim pressed low, said, "Ms. Renault, here's your takeout."
Candice was slightly startled, but she said calmly, "I'm sorry. My friend just ordered another takeout for me, so I won’t be needing this. Could you please take care of it for me?"
The young man seemed taken aback by her response.
Right then, Candice closed and locked the door. She even pushed a nearby stool against it.
After completing these actions, she realized she had broken into a cold sweat.
Due to her habit developed during business trips, Candice never used her real name when ordering takeout or shopping online. She had always used the pseudonym, Candice Roberts.
However, the person just now had addressed her as Ms. Renault.
The strange occurrences that had occurred recently suddenly made sense to her.
Candice covered her chest, trying to suppress her nervous and frantic feelings. She was sure someone was onto her.
She took out her phone, intending to contact someone, but hesitated. She wasn’t sure who to call.
She didn't want to worry Hailey and the others in Dorrington, and she didn’t have any close friends here.
Her mind drifted to Alex.
Candice bit her lip and decided to call the hotel front desk instead.
Candice had a rough night. She kept feeling like someone was knocking on her door, causing her to toss and turn in bed.
She was startled and scared the whole night.
When she left her room the next morning, she looked disheveled.
In the hotel lobby, she ran into Sawyer, who was surprised at the sight of her.
