"Hey, why are you walking so fast? Didn't you see Mr. Elysian? Is he here to see you?" Angela repeatedly reached out to grab Candice, sounding puzzled.
Candice didn't slow down. "He's not waiting for me."
Sonia was still around today, so Alex should be here to pick her up.
Candice didn’t really care. She just didn't want to see Sonia's triumphant look.
Watching people you dislike living their life happily can be quite annoying.
Despite that, Angela held Candice and said, "Who said he isn’t here for you? When you came out, his eyes were practically glued to you."
Shaking her head, Angela took Candice directly to Alex. Without beating around the bush, she asked, "Mr. Elysian, are you here for Candice? If you are, give us a sign."
Candice's expression faltered when she heard Alex's deep voice saying, "Yes, I'm waiting for her."
Angela exclaimed, "You should’ve just said so! Luckily, I’m smart, and I guessed correctly. Otherwise, she might’ve thought you were waiting for someone else!"
With a wave of her hand, Angela added, "Alright, I'll leave you two alone."
After Angela left, Alex unlocked the car. "Get in."
Candice looked at Alex without moving.
"If you have something to say, say it here."
Alex raised an eyebrow and clicked his tongue before saying casually, "I thought you knew your father came to see me. He even said in front of an important client that I'm his son-in-law and invited us to dinner tonight."
Candice was taken aback.
She hadn't expected Henry to directly approach Alex.
A wave of unpleasant emotions surged within her as she clenched her fists, enduring the discomfort.
"You could have refused him directly. Besides, he misunderstood."
Alex's dark gaze lingered on her. Without uttering a word, he conveyed an unspoken insistence, or maybe he wasn't in the best mood right now.
Candice didn't know what Henry had told Alex or what trouble he had caused.
But the point was that she was the reason Henry was acting this way.
After a moment of silence, she opened the car door and got in.
Both Sawyer and the driver weren't present; Alex had driven here himself. They drove in silence, the atmosphere inside the car heavy.
It wasn't until they arrived at the restaurant chosen by Henry that Candice spoke in a hushed tone, "If you feel uncomfortable, you can leave first."
Alex lowered his head to adjust his cufflinks. "If I leave first, the business circle of Solaris will be filled with rumors about me disrespecting my father-in-law and looking down on people."
His tone was indifferent, as if he was stating facts.
Candice could sense the blatant sarcasm in his words, but she couldn't refute him, as Henry might indeed do such a thing.
She took a deep breath. "I will explain to him and clear up the misunderstanding. He probably jumped to conclusions."
Alex glanced at her with a faint, indifferent expression. "Do you think he will believe you?"
He seemed not to care much.
