Before Candice could react, the others had noticed Yana and had already come over.
"I…" Yana was about to speak again, but Candice pushed through the crowd and went downstairs directly without a word.
For a few seconds, her mind was blank, but now she was clear-headed.
Hanley acted quickly and immediately followed her downstairs.
They arrived at the hospital soon after. When they arrived, it was obvious that the police had also been notified and were guarding the door of the ward with serious expressions.
Raymond, who had been in contact with Candice all along, glanced at her and spoke in a deep voice, "She jumped from the second floor and was caught by the tree below. She's injured her legs and hands, but it's not critical. The doctor is still examining her condition."
"How did she jump from the second floor?" Candice asked.
The windows of the hospital were strictly regulated, with only a small gap that could be opened. Moreover, Yvonne was under police guard twenty-four hours a day, so it was impossible for her to leave the ward.
Raymond's expression turned ugly. "She removed the window restrictor."
Yvonne’s timing was quite clever. She had chosen to do it at 5:40 in the morning, when everything was quiet and everyone was relaxed. By the time she was discovered, she had climbed onto the windowsill.
Candice watched the video footage handed to her by Raymond. Yvonne was sitting on the windowsill, her hair and clothes disheveled, mumbling something incoherently.
Then, Candice’s view was blocked, followed by the sound of a phone screen locking.
Hanley looked down at her and said in a low voice, "Don't watch."
His palm felt slightly warm as it covered Candice's eyes, blocking the part where Yvonne jumped. Unlike the cold scent of cedar on Alex, his scent was fresher, with a faint hint of mint.
Candice's eyelashes trembled as Hanley's palm passed over them.
Feeling a slight itch in his palm, he instinctively withdrew his hand and placed it at his side.
He lowered his gaze to conceal the strange emotions in his eyes, then glanced at Candice again and coughed lightly, asking Raymond, "Did she say why she suddenly did this?"
"When we rescued her, we asked about the reason. She said she was a sinner, no one would forgive her, and she didn't deserve to live anymore."
Candice's face instantly darkened. She waited outside the ward for half an hour before the door opened.
She approached the doctor and asked, "How is the patient's condition?"
"The external injuries are not serious, but she can't handle any emotional stimulation mentally. It's best for the family not to mention anything that might upset her," the doctor said to Candice.
After the doctor left, she stood at the door of the ward for a while before entering.
Even though she had mentally prepared herself before coming in, when she saw Yvonne lying on the bed covered in injuries, her eyes still widened.
Yvonne saw her enter, and flashed a smile that looked uglier than a tearful face.
She looked at Candice, tears welling up in her cloudy eyes, and reached out her bandaged hand, "Candice, you're willing to come see me. Are you willing to forgive me?"
Her voice was full of pleading, looking at Candice with eagerness and humility, making anyone who saw it feel heartbroken.
Candice just looked at her quietly, looking at the wounds on Yvonne's body, and her fingers tightened slightly as she spoke calmly. "Yvonne, what exactly do you want to do?"
Yvonne was taken aback, panic flashing in her eyes. "I… I just want to atone."
