The more Nan Chen refused to reply, the more Ning Ran wanted to probe.
Oh, come on. Is that such a difficult question to answer? I'm clearly the prettier one! He must be blind if he can't tell.
“Fine. Don't say anything, then. I know what your answer is, anyway. You find Luo Zhiyi prettier,” Ning Ran fumed before jerking her head to the side.
Nan Chen frowned. “Did I say that?”
“You didn't, but that's what you're thinking!”
“How do you know what I'm thinking?”
“That's what you're thinking about, and I just know it!” Ning Ran retorted, knowing full well she was being somewhat unreasonable.
Then again, the best way to deal with someone as painfully rational as Nan Chen was by being the exact opposite.
After all, shouldn't a couple be talking about emotions instead of always taking the logical approach?
“Of course, you're prettier,” Nan Chen said resignedly, leaving Ning Ran buzzing with happiness.
“Glad to know you have good taste.”
Nan Chen couldn't help but sigh inwardly. Are all women this childish? She's already a mother of two, for goodness' sake. Why would she still ask such shallow and boring questions? To think she even lost her temper when I refused to answer her!
Now that Ning Ran was in a cheerier mood, she nudged closer to Nan Chen and held his arm. “So, have you and Luo Zhiyi dated before?”
The latter hummed in response, which instantly sent Ning Ran reeling.
“What?” she exclaimed as she let go of the man's arm.
“Well, we weren't exactly in a relationship, but I guess we were close enough,” Nan Chen replied earnestly.
“What on earth do you mean by that? Did you guys date or not?”
By then, Nan Chen's patience was wearing thin. “Yes, and no. That's all in the past now. Let's not dwell on it.”
“Huh? Do you think I'd forget it just because you said so?” Ning Ran snapped. “You may think it's all in the past, but she doesn't share the same sentiment. She's still thinking about you, yet you neither accept nor reject her advances. What's the meaning of that? Do you have other intentions?”
Nan Chen's frown deepened. “Why would you still say this when I'm about to marry you?”
“But we aren't married yet, are we? Besides, there's always the possibility of you cheating on me after marriage. Everyone knows it's even more common for a married person to cheat on their spouse. Is that what you want? Are you planning to cheat on me after marrying me?”
Stunned by how ridiculous Ning Ran's train of thought was, Nan Chen decided to ignore her.
There was just no way he could bring himself to indulge in her unreasonable behavior.
Unfortunately, the more he stayed silent, the more curious Ning Ran was about his relationship with Luo Zhiyi.
Argh! Given my understanding of Nan Chen, it'd be impossible to pry any information out of him if he doesn't want to talk about something. Forget it. I shall slowly investigate this matter. I shouldn't be taking things too far, anyway. We were in a good mood, and I'd hate to ruin it.
One week later, in Wildefield, the capital of Caspardion, a desperado-themed party was going strong throughout the night.
A group of young men and women danced and drank their hearts out as they freely consumed the illegal drugs strewn on the table.
As it turned out, they were all wealthy heirs from China, some of whom had had to escape the country because of their criminal activities.
Others, however, had parents who committed crimes and decided to transfer their assets to Caspardion so their families could enjoy themselves.
In short, they could no longer return to China.
With an arm looped around a gorgeous woman's waist and a glass of wine in his other hand, Rong Jilin was in utter bliss when a tall lady wearing a black butterfly mask approached him.
“Are you Rong Jilin?”
Even though the woman was masked, it wasn't difficult to tell she had an incredible figure under her black dress. That, of course, caught Rong Jilin's interest.
