Lucien Gray’s phone rings when he and Nina Morrison are about to leave.
Lucien Gray looks at the screen. He smiles at Nina Morrison as he answers the phone, “It's Nelson.”
In order to make Nina Morrison also hear Nelson’s voice, Lucien Gray sets the hands-free mode.
Nelson’s voice comes clearly from the phone.
“Hello Daddy! Where are you? And Auntie Nina? Nelson wants to go to the amusement park, could I, Daddy?”
His clear kid’s voice, timid and shy, especially the last “Could I, Daddy?” He said with imploration and the fear of being rejected. Nina Morrison’s heart ached.
Lucien Gray softened his voice, “Daddy’s here with Auntie Nina, baby. We’ll pick you up in a minute. No matter you want to go to the amusement park or the aquarium, that’s all right, you can go. Today, Daddy and Auntie Nina will accompany you all day.”
Nelson is immediately brightened up, “Daddy is it real? You can stay with me all day?”
Lucien Gray smiles, “It’s true. Daddy will keep my words this time.”
Nina Morrison glances at Lucien Gray, “keep my words this time”, how many times haven’t you kept your words? No wonder that Nelson didn’t believe.
“Nelson, would you like to say something with Auntie Nina?” Lucien Gray asks Nelson and asks for Nina Morrison’s permission with his eys.
Nina Morrison’s heart is lifted, and it suddenly beats quickly.
There being silent for a while at the other end of the phone, and the little person quietly says, “Auntie Nina...”
Nina Morrison nods hurriedly, “Hello Nelson…”
