"You shouldn’t overwork yourself, or Matthew will kill me!” Hudson chuckled.
Lucy was a little embarrassed to hear that as she knew exactly what Matthew’s temperament was like. He was so easily jealous that she did not know what to do about it at times.
“Matthew can be quite stubborn at times. I hope you don’t mind.”
“It’s okay, I don’t mind. I was just joking. Are you going home now? Do you want me to give you a ride?”
Lucy waved her hand and said, “No need. Matthew will be here soon.”
“Alright then. I’ll be going now. Take care and stay safe.”
“Goodbye, Mr. Xender.”
After Hudson left, Lucy sat at her desk, waiting for Matthew to come.
“Lulu, I’m downstairs. Hurry down and don’t forget to put on your coat. It’s a bit chilly outside,” Matthew’s concerned voice came through the phone.
“Okay.” Lucy obediently put on her coat and hurried downstairs. When she reached, she saw Matthew standing by the road waiting for her.
“Get in, Lulu, or you’ll catch a cold.” Matthew carefully opened the car door for her. Once she was inside, he hopped in and drove off.
Feeling incredibly sleepy on the way home, Lucy dozed off. Matthew looked at her with pity and gently stroked her head.
When they got home, Matthew carried her from the passenger seat to her bedroom, tucking her in before resuming his work in the study.
…
The next morning, Lucy was awakened by her alarm clock.
