Chapter 154
Astrid checked her time for what felt like the umpteenth time. Ler heels tiredly tapped the floor, exhaustion filling her up.
Finally, he did come. She checked her time again, confirming he was an hour late.
“I got caught up with something.” Kage said as he took a seat across the table.
Astrid wore a smile. “I’m glad you could make it, anyway.”
A waiter came up to take their orders.
“I wanted to thank you for inviting me for lunch,” Astrid said after the waiter had left.
“It’s nothing.” Kage shrugged, looking into his phone instead.
Silence stretched between them until the waiter returned with their orders.
“I’d love to have dinner at your place someday,” Kage suddenly said, surprising her.
“Oh. That’s a discovery.” She chuckled.
A moment passed. Astrid gave him a long stare. “Why don’t you tell me what’s going on, Kage Hawkins?”
Kage who had been working on his steak, paused to look at her.
“You’re here for something, and I think we both know that.”
“What’re you talking about?” He scoffed, leaning back in his chair
“Please, Kage. You’re a very fine man, and trust me, I admire you. But I’m also a very smart lady.” She dropped her cutleries. “You didn’t approach me ‘cause you like me. As a matter of fact, I don’t think you like anyone–not even your girlfriend. You’ve been trying to push things too suddenly between us, and now, surprisingly, you even want to have dinner at my place. If you ask me, I’d say you’re after something.”
Their gazes locked in an intense stare. Smiling, Astrid leaned forward. “Please, don’t think I have an issue with you wanting something. After all, we’re in the world of business and I admire men who go to great lengths to get what they want. Maybe, we could further this business. Tell me what you want, and I’ll get it done for you. In return, you’ll do something for me.”
“And what do you think I want, Astrid?” Kage asked, his gaze still locked on hers.
Astrid chuckled. “I wish I were that smart. Come on, Kage. Let’s do this.”
After giving it a deeper thought, Kage admitted he needed something. He told her about the drive Galen was in possession of but didn’t tell her what was contained in it. If she could find and bring it to him, he’d do what she wanted which was a relationship between them for six months.
Astrid didn’t care if their relationship had to be forced. She didn’t care if Kage would be cold and unfeeling towards her. She was ready to do anything to have this man, no matter how little the time frame might be.
She promised to get the drive to him in no time. She already had an idea on where the drive could actually be among Galen’s belongings.

Sylvie stayed away from home for hours, not having the heart to face her Grandfather. But eventually, nightfall came and

she knew she had Tate hing one way or the other.

Machat had been calling and texting her for hours, but she had no interest in talking to him. He was the last thing on her mind when she had such a huge problem at hand.
Stepping out of her car, she found Galen and Natalie by the terrace. They both saw and stared at her, and hesitantly, she moved forward to meet them.
“You good for nothing!” Natalie snapped even before she got close. “Where have you been, huh? How dare you ignore our calls since morning? Just who do you think you are? I knew it was a bad idea for my husband to entrust something this valuable to you. I knew you were bad luck!”
Syivie kept her head dipped, her heart pounding as she struggled to stomach the woman’s words.
“I’m sorry,” she muttered when her grandmother seemed to be done.
Lifting her head, she stared into her grandfather’s cold eyes. The man seemed disappointed. “I’m sorry. I… I don’t know what happened.”
“Of course, you do!” Natalie roared. “You intentionally did this so the company could lose those clients. Admit it, you witch; you’ve never meant good for this family.”
Syivie frowned. “How can you say that?”
“Because it’s the truth! You’re simply here to destroy us, and so far, I think you’ve been succeeding. Explain why you weren’t reachable until the men left.”
“I…” Syivie stopped, realizing it’d sound very stupid if she said she’d slept off in the car. She’d become more unbelievable then. “It wasn’t intentional. I’m sorry.”
“Like hell you are.” Natalie snorted.
Galen remained silent, and for some reasons, it made Sylvie even more nervous.
He stood and walked away, heading into the house. Natalie glared at her once more before following behind her husband.
Syivie broke into sobs.
Until the following day, Galen still didn’t say a word to Sylvie who’d have preferred he vented out on her rather than give her the silent treatment.
She felt so terrible for bringing such disappointment to him. Although she was still trying to understand how she’d passed out so suddenly in the car. She didn’t even have breakfast before leaving the house, except for the coffee and-
She was in the office when the thought came to her, and she froze. All she had was coffee–the same coffee June had walked in on her making. Syivie could remember there had been times she’d been distracted–distracted enough for June to spike her drink.
But was that even possible? Would June do a thing like that?
The office phone rang, distracting her from her thoughts. She answered the call and was informed by the receptionist at the front desk that someone was there to see her.
“It’s Machai Harry,” the lady added.
Syivie was stunned. Machai came to Astréa Label to see her?
