Chapter 6
The thought settled in her head as she made her way to the room. Giving it a deep thought, she returned his call.
“Hey,” his rich voice reached her ears.
H…Hey. Uh… Mr. Harper, how’re you….
“Nah, don’t do that with me. We’re past the whole formalities already, Sylvie.”
She cleared her throat. “How did you get my contact?”
You’re a business lady, Sylvie. Getting your contact shouldn’t be so difficult.”
Still, why was he calling? She thought their acquaintance would end at the bar.
“I was hoping I could buy you a drink tonight, he proposed.
Sylvie’s brows furrowed. “Oh.. thank you. But I don’t think that’s necessary. I’m…”
“Come on.. Sylvie. Just one drink, I promise.”
Sylvie was tempted to agree, but thinking of the child. She couldn’t tell if alcohol would affect it or not. The other night, she had been too miserable give it a thought, but now, she wasn’t sure she wanted to take any more.
Tm sorry, Westley, but I can’t make it. I’m occupied with something,” she said.
There was an echo of disappointment in Westley’s sigh.
“Okay, then. Lunch, maybe?” He proposed
Til… think about it
Wait, was he forgetting she was married? How could he be asking her out on lunch?
There was no way she was giving it a thought. Besides, she was pregnant. There was no way shewas hanging out with a man while being pregnant for another.
After a few more pleasantries, the call ended.
Four days later after much persuasion from her father, Sylvie returned to the Hawkins mansion.
It was evening when she did, and Phoebe was in the living room, having a drink with her daughter. They looked at her with
disdain
“Where have you been, huh? At some sick man’s place?” Phoebe grumped.
Sylvie suppressed the urge to roll her eyes. They’ve never liked her. Despite Phoebe being the one that convinced her to get married to Kage, she always held a grudge against Sylvie for manipulating Kage’s grandfather for entangling her with Kage. Everyone believed Sylvie’s family somehow, had something to do with it. They didn’t believe she was as clueless as they all
Were.
“Hi, mum. Sylvie mumbled as she headed for the stairs.
“You know, you should wait a little longer before running off to meet your little boyfriends. Your marriage with my son will be ending in a week. You must not disrespect the contract.”
Sylvie wanted to walk away but couldn’t. She turned to face her.
“I was at my dad’s place, mum. Unlike your son, I don’t have plans right after the marriage.”
Phoche snorted. Turning around, she ascended the stairs.

Getting to the hallway leading to her room, She found Kage. He held a drunk in one hand, while the other held his phone to his ear.
He passed her a head–to–toe stare as she approached.
Sylvie had already prepared all of her defenses in her head. She wasn’t going to let herself get scolded for taking a few days off the insane family.
“Yeah, the blue one. It needs to be the latest model,” he spoke into the phone.
“No, if it isn’t the Lamborghini, I do not want it.”
Sylvie narrowed her eyes. Obviously getting a new car.
“I also don’t wanna talk to you most of the time, Sylvie. So, the rare lucky times that I do, you don’t ignore me
His words stung Sylvie. But she did a good job masking how she truly felt.
When she was completely out of sight, Kage scrolled through his phone and made another call. “Yeah. How’s it going with the doctor’s appointment?” He stared into the distance Sylvie had taken. “It’s been secured, sir. We’ll be meeting with her tomorrow, the person on the other line replied. “Good.” He dropped the call.
