Chapter 498 Exact Revenge On Her
At Nova Residences, after hanging up the phone, Lenora set her phone aside. She flipped the food in the pan a couple of times before covering it with the lid.
Recalling Zachary's words from earlier, she walked to the door and locked it from the inside.
As she passed by the living room window, she opened it and cast her gaze downward for a moment.
By this time, the sky had already darkened, casting a hazy, grey veil over the land.
On the street outside the apartment complex below, cars were constantly coming and going. The streetlights on either side were casting a hazy glow.
In the distance, every household in Jacaster had their lights on, giving shape to the beautiful night scenery.
From Lenora's perspective, there was a van parked not far from the entrance of the residential area.
Thankfully, there are no traffic police around. Otherwise, that van will surely be ticketed.
The thought had barely crossed her mind when she saw the van start to move. It followed a black sedan, disappearing into the underground parking lot of the complex.
Without giving it much thought, Lenora closed the window and returned to the kitchen. She lifted the lid of the pan and gave it a couple of stirs.
Unbeknownst to her, a few minutes later, the black sedan left the residential area. Shortly after, the van also exited the area, speeding off in a different direction.
Lenora noticed that the ribs were nearly done and the sauce had reduced perfectly. She peeled a few scallions, washed them thoroughly, and chopped them finely.
Somehow, she had a moment of unease. Her knife slipped and cut into her finger, causing blood to gush out.
Lenora suddenly thought of something. She quickly pulled out her phone and dialed Sophia's number.
A cold, mechanical voice could be heard. “Hello, the number you have dialed is unavailable...”
A pang of unease struck Lenora's heart. She immediately hung up and dialed Zephyr's number.
This time, the ringtone sounded for a few seconds before the call was answered.
Immediately, Lenora asked, “Zephyr, is Soph with you?”
“I just dropped her off at your underground parking lot. Hasn't she gone up yet?”
“No, something might have happened to Soph. I can't leave the house right now. You need to come back immediately. I'm having the property management pull up the surveillance.” Lenora didn't have time to elaborate. “No matter what you encounter on the way, don't get involved. Just come straight back.”
“Okay.”
A flicker of worry flashed in Zephyr's eyes, and he immediately swung the car around.
Previously, Lenora had hidden a photo of him and Alice from Sophia for the sake of Zachary, which had not endeared her to Zephyr.
Later, when Zephyr found out that Lenora had broken their agreement and sent the pictures to Sophia, his regard for her diminished even further.
However, this also indicated the importance Sophia held in Lenora's eyes.
She wouldn't have said these things to him without a reason.
Lenora dialed the property management staff's number.
The residents of this community were either wealthy or influential. The property management services were thorough, and the staff was exceptionally courteous. “Ms. Wilkin, how may we assist you?”
“About ten minutes ago, I lost a bangle in the underground parking lot. It's worth fifty thousand. I just went back to look for it but couldn't find it. I suspect someone might have picked it up. Could you please check the surveillance for me? I'll be right there.”
“All right, what were you wearing today?”
Recalling Sophia's outfit when she left, Lenora described, “A light green chiffon blouse on top, paired with a white mini skirt and white high heels.”
“All right, I understand. I'm going to access the surveillance footage now. As soon as I have any results, I'll let you know immediately.”
“Okay.”
After ending the call, Lenora called the two bodyguards to come over.
“Almost.”
Zephyr's voice echoed from the speakerphone.
“Soph was taken into a van. You should head east along Goldlock Road to follow them. I've sent the surveillance footage to your phone; the police are already accessing the roadside cameras.” Lenora then handed him the police officer's phone number. “Contact him. This might have something to do with Isla.”
“All right, I understand.”
A moment of seriousness flashed in Zephyr's eyes as he hung up the phone. While driving, he pulled up the surveillance footage sent by Lenora and quickly reviewed it.
Two individuals dragged Sophia into the van, while a third person served as the driver.
Zephyr dialed the phone number given by Lenora and explained the situation to the police officer on the other end, hoping to obtain the results of their surveillance investigation.
The police officer said, “It's too risky. Don't go after them yourself. We've already dispatched units.”
“Don't worry, I won't act recklessly. The person they took is my fiancée. I must save her.”
“No way, you might just end up putting both yourself and the victim in danger.”
Zephyr immediately hung up the phone, dialed another number, and said, “Christine, hack Isla's phone, retrieve her last five contact numbers, and locate them. I'll give you five minutes.”
“Five minutes? Isn't that too short?” A mournful voice echoed from the other end of the phone.
“Three minutes.”
“All right, five minutes. I'm on it!”
Five minutes later, Christine had the results. “Among Elia's recent five contacts, one is in Fairlake, which I presume isn't what you're interested in. The most recent one is at Jacaster City Hospital, followed by Pearl Road Flour Mill in Jacaster, the city council compound, and Goldlock Road...”
Several locations were mentioned, and Zephyr noted a few unfamiliar terms like “Pearl Road” and “flour mill.” He immediately turned right at the upcoming intersection, heading toward Pearl Road.
