Chapter 516 A Grudge
Inside the car, the atmosphere was quiet and still.
Taking advantage of the brief pause at the red light, Zachary turned his head to glance at Lenora.
She leaned back against the chair, turning her gaze out the window, leaving him with a view of the back of her head.
From the moment she got in the car, she had maintained that posture.
She didn't utter a single word to him.
Zachary touched his nose.
As they were passing through the downtown food street, he cleared his throat and tentatively asked, “Do you want to grab some late-night snacks?”
Lenora remained silent.
Zachary didn't ask any more questions.
The car pulled into the underground parking garage of Nova Residences.
Without uttering another word, Lenora unbuckled her seatbelt and tried to exit the car, but the door wouldn't budge. She turned her head and glanced at Zachary.
Zachary leaned in and asked, “Nora, are you still upset?”
“Open the door. Let me out,” Lenora said indifferently.
Zachary seemed to turn a deaf ear, closing in on her even more. His large hand gripped her chin, and he gave her a peck on her lips.
“You...” Lenora glared at him angrily, rubbing her lips a few times.
“If you're still upset, I'll keep kissing you.”
Lenora's eyes widened in surprise.
The two of them locked eyes, caught in a stalemate.
Zachary leaned in, intending to kiss her once again.
Quickly leaning back, Lenora pressed herself against the car window, a blush of embarrassment on her face. “All right. I'm not mad anymore!” she declared.
Zachary raised an eyebrow, his gaze landing on her ears, which were flushed a deep red. He then flashed a half-smile.
He knew then she wasn't angry but was instead embarrassed.
Lenora glanced away, murmuring softly, “Open the door quickly. I need to go back.”
“Let me take you up there.”
Zachary unlocked the car, pushed the door open, and stepped out. He then walked around to the other side and pulled the car door open. His hand hovered over the top of the door, ready to prevent her from bumping her head.
Upon reaching the entrance of the eighteenth floor, Lenora cast him a glance, saying, “All right. You can go now.”
“Aren't you going to invite me in?” Zachary looked at her.
Lenora shook her head confidently. “Why should I stand on ceremony with you?”
After she had spoken, she promptly shut the door.
Zachary glanced at the door in front of him and couldn't help but let out a wry smile.
Just as he was about to turn to leave, the door before him swung open again.
Zachary looked at Lenora's face, taken aback for a moment. “Having second thoughts?”
“You're overthinking it. I just wanted to let you know that I'll be heading to Fairlake on a business trip in a few days.”
Zachary paused, raising an eyebrow. “How long will you be there?”
“One week.”
“Have Flynn and the others follow you.”
Lenora hummed in acknowledgment and proceeded to close the door.
Zachary was rendered speechless.
After being discharged from the hospital, Harrietta had to return to kindergarten.
As soon as Harrietta arrived at school, her friends swarmed around her, curious about where she had been those past few days. Once they got their answers, they then expressed their concern about her health.
The teacher took even greater care of her.
After school, Harrietta lined up with the others and the teacher to the entrance. Her large eyes darted around as she looked for her driver. Yet, she inadvertently caught sight of a familiar face before she could locate the driver.
That person's eyes were deep-set, with a soft blue hue that was captivating. His stature was tall and imposing, further emphasized by the immaculately tailored suit he wore.
It was the foreign old man whom she had seen in the mall the previous day.
Meanwhile, Lenora was in the midst of her dinner when she suddenly received a phone call.
The incoming call displayed Delilah's name.
After the call connected, Delilah's anxious voice rang out. “Ms. Wilkin, is Hattie with you?”
“No.” Lenora felt a sudden jolt in her heart and put down her fork. “Has Hattie disappeared again?”
Delilah felt a growing sense of disappointment and urgency. “Yes. I'll immediately get in touch with Hattie's father and the police. I won't bother you any further. If Hattie comes to your place, please let me know!”
“All right.”
