Chapter 821

Third Person’s POV

Adelaide doubled over laughing.

“Well, look who it is. If it isn’t our favorite bean-counter, Avery.”

“Yeah, yeah, laugh it up. It’s not like you guys care about this stuff anyway.”

Avery rubbed his hands together, already eyeing the gift wrap.

“Instead of letting these sit in your warehouse gathering dust, I’m taking them to sell. The pack’s daily expenses aren’t going to pay themselves. And Adelaide, if you don’t want those gifts Lisa sent, just let me deal with them!”

Paisley grabbed a silver goblet and chucked it at him.

“In your dreams, you jerk! Where’s Lance?”

Avery caught it mid-air and checked for dents.

“Hey, watch it! This is worth a fortune. Lance? He’ll be lucky to get out of the Ministry by midnight. He’s buried in a few nasty cases.”

“That busy, huh?” Paisley frowned.

“By the way, did you check on that case I mentioned? The she-wolf they pulled out of the river

-was it definitely suicide?”

She didn’t want to believe anyone would choose to leave this world on purpose.

As long as you were breathing, there was always a chance to turn things around.

“I checked with my guys,” Avery said, starting to rip into a box.

“No signs of a struggle or a drag. It was definitely a suicide.”

He pulled out a vial of high-purity Moonlight Essence and some ruby jewelry, letting out a disappointed sigh.

“Man, why couldn’t they just send cash?”

Adelaide wasn’t surprised by the report.

“Did any family come for her?”

“The guards notified them,” Avery shrugged.

She hadn’t been this pissed off since Tamara was poisoned.

Adelaide went quiet for a moment, then made a call.

“Paisley, go claim her in the name of the Independent Center. Find a nice, quiet spot outside the city and give her a proper funeral.”

“On it!” Paisley agreed immediately.

Avery knocked back a glass of cinnamon cider and remembered a bit of gossip.

“Oh, I heard on the street today-Wanda got kicked out of the Glenveil Pack.”

Paisley let out a cold laugh.

“Well, she’s a commoner now. Though with her family’s money, she’ll probably be just fine.”

A few days later, Luna Harper heard about Queenie and spent a good ten minutes swearing like a sailor at the ex-mate.

Once she calmed down, she called her best staff and told them to help Paisley with the funeral.

“Look, honey,” Harper told Paisley.

“You probably don’t know the first thing about funeral service. Let me handle the logistics. Just give me her full name.”

“Thank you so much, ma’am,” Paisley said.

She really was out of her depth with rituals. She’d thought about asking Valentin, but Harper taking over was much better.

She pulled a piece of parchment from her cloak.

“Adelaide checked the files at the station. Her name was Queenie Carter. She was only thirty- four.”

Harper sighed. “God, she was just a kid.”
