A KIS At Midnight

MAKING IT OFFICIAL

Caelum’s gaze lingers on mine for another second before he leans down to press a soft kiss to my forehead. Then, just like that, he pulls back and began making his way out of the bed.

“Why don’t you freshen up,” he said, “I’ll go make breakfast,” he took a step toward the door before glancing back at me, “Unless you want me to join you.”

I raised an eyebrow, “Hm, the actually sounds pleasant,” his eyes immediately lit up making/me grin. “By

no.”

The pout that instantly appeared on his face made me burst out laughing. “You’re impossible,” I tease.

“Your lossx,” shaking my head, still smiling as I watch him walk out of the bedroom.

The moment the he disappears from my view, I let out a quiet breath and couldn’t stop the giddiness settling inside me. It was everywhere, that I could practically feel butterflies fluttering around in my stomach, and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t wipe the smile from my face.

Yesterday, when I had come over to his place to talk, I hadn’t been sure how the night would go. For all I knew, he might not have even wanted to see me.

I had doubted myself so many times on the way here, wondering maybe I should have waited and should have given him some time. Maybe confronting him wasn’t the right thing to do.

But now, I was so glad I hadn’t given it time, was glad I’d come over, because last night had change something between us. We had finally stopped hiding behind all the teasing, arguments, and stubbornness and, in our own way, confessed what we’d been feeling.

Maybe we hadn’t said everything perfectly, neither of us had known exactly what to do with those feelings but they were out in the open now, and somehow, that thought made my smile grow even wider.

A small giggle escapes me as I turn onto my stomach and bury my face in the pillow, smiling like an idiot. The pillow still carried Caelum’s familiar scent, and I couldn’t help taking another little whiff before letting out another quiet laugh.

I was hopeless

My phone suddenly pinge from the table beside the bed, making me stretch an arm toward it without looking, my fingers eventually finding the device. I lift my head from the pillow, a couple of disheveled 1 strands of hair falling across my face but I quickly push them behind my ear before unlocking my phone.

Several notifications filled the screen, one text message from my dad, notifications from Instagram, a couple of chats. My eyes immediately caught the most recent message, Kaia.

I opened it and couldn’t help smiling when I read her message asking how things had gone with Caelum, followed by a teasing confession that she was already dying from curiosity.

Shaking my head, I wasn’t at all surprised that she was curious to know how things had gone between Caelum and I, she had been the last person I had talked to before coming here.

Setting the phone down on the bed before finally climbing out, I stretch my arms above my head as I made my way toward the bathroom and moment I looked into the mirror, I froze.

hair was an absolute mess, with a everal strands were sticking out in every possible direction, while the rest had fallen into a tangle, sleep rumpled mess around my face.

Yet somehow..i was glowing. And yes maybe be my appearance hadn’t magically changed overnight, but because I felt different, lighter, happier. There was a brightness in my eyes that hadn’t been there yesterday.

I stared at my reflection for a few seconds before a smile slowly spread across my face, maybe last night really had changed everything. My body ached as I moved but as I studied it, it felt different, love bites were dotted across my neck, a few on the curve of my breast, some of my stomach, I think I even caught one on my inner thigh.

My lips were a deep pink and swollen, my makeup was smudge like hell but there wasn’t a part of it I hated. I loved it.

Grabbing a brush from the counter and ran it through my hair, taming the worst of the mess before splashing cold water over my face. After washing up, I returned to the bedroom and opened Caelum’s closet.

I scan the clothes for a moment before settling on one of his hoodies and a pair of sweatpants, they were both far too big on me, but that only made them more comfortable.

Once I was dressed, I made my way downstairs and the moment I reached the bottom of the stairs, the delicious smell of breakfast hit my nostrils.

My stomach practically growls in response, following the scent toward the kitchen, stopping right at the entrance. Caelum stood with his back to me, humming quietly as he bops his head from side to side while stirring scrambled eggs.

A smile immediately spread across my face at how insanely cute he looekd

I quietly made my way toward him before wrapping my arms around his waist from behind and he immediately placed one hand over mine.

“Hey,” he said softly.

“Hey,” I leaned forward, pressing a quick kiss against his back, “What are you making?”

“Scrambled eggs, toast, and some bacon.”

“That smells delicious.”

He stopped stirring, the spoon slipped from his hand and landed on the counter as he turned around, before I could say anything else, his arms wraps around me, pulling me into a warm hug. He lowers his head slightly, taking a small breath near my hair.

“You smell delicious.”

“That’s literally your soap, I used it to shower,” I laughed.

He pulls back just enough to look at me, “Are you sure? You smell a little like me,” he smiled proudly, “and you smell sweet too.”

“You’re insatiable,” I says shaking my head, amused.

Wou keep saying that.”

“Because you keep proving me right.”

He feigned innocence, his lips pouting slightly. “I have no clue what you’re talking about.”

“Yeah, right,” he chuckles and I felt the vibration of his chest beneath my hands, and my smile softened. With a quiet sigh, I leaned further into his embrace, welcoming the warmth and simply enjoying having/

him this close.

When he finally pulls back, a small whine falls from my lips, causing him tk grin and ruffle my hair.

“Hey!”

He didn’t even seem to care about my protest,”Go have a seat, breakfast is almost ready.”

I smoothed down my hair, giving him an exaggerated glare before turning toward the table, “You’re lucky I love you.”

The words slipped out before I could stop them and I froze, so did Caelum. The kitchen suddenly became unbearably quiet as my heart hammers against my chest, staring at his back. I hadn’t meant to say it, not like that, not so casually.

It was the first time I’d actually said the word love to him, I nervously caught my bottom lip between my teeth, wondering what was going through his mind.

Why wasn’t he saying anything?

“Caelum..” before I could finish, his voice finally broke through the silence.

“I love you too.”

I sucked in a breath, my heart seemed to stop for half a second before racing even faster. Had I heard him correctly?

Caelum slowly turns around, his gaze settling on mine, “I wanted to do this properly,” he admits, “I wanted flowers., a date, candlelight and a something romantic.”

A small, nervous smile appears on his face, “I wanted the moment I officially told you how I felt to be perfect,” he took a step closer, “but then you said it and I realized there isn’t a perfect moment,” his gaze never left mine, “Not when you’re standing right here with me.”

My breath caught as he stops in front of me, “So I’ll say it now,” his voice softens, “I love you, Delilah Quinn,” my eyes immediately widen wondering if I had heard him rightly and another round of butterflies swirls in my stomach

Before I could say anything, he closes the small distance between us, his lips brushing against mine with a tenderness that made my breath tremble. For a moment, neither of us move, and simply stood there, suspended in the quiet kitchen, as if the rest of the world had fallen away.

Then he tilts his head, deepening the kiss, one hand settling gently against my cheek, while his other hand rested at my waist, drawing me closer. I curl my fingers into the front of his shirt, holding on as warmth

spread through me. thw was soft and unhurried, every gentle press of his lips felt like a promise, and every breath we shared made my heart ache in the sweetest way.

When he finally pulled back, his forehead rested against mine, and our breaths mingled between us,, we were both wearing huge grins.

I couldn’t stop smiling, looking at him for a moment before asking, “So.. does this make us a couple?”

“Hell yes,” his answer came so quickly that I laughed, “I’m not letting you go, never,” his gaze/softens as he looks at me, “You belong to me.”

A warm smile spread across my face, “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

“Now go sit,” I obediently made my way to the table, still smiling like an idiot.

Caelum returns a moment later with a plate, placing it in front of me. Scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, buttered toast, and a few slices of fresh fruit filled the plate.

I picked up my fork and took a bite and my eyes widened as a pleased groan escaped me, and I immediately gave him a thumbs up.

He smiles, “I’m glad you like it.”

“I’ve liked everything you’ve made so far,” I said, “You’re one heck of a cook, five stars, Michelin.”

“I don’t know about the five-star rating,” he chuckles, “but thanks.”

We continue eating for a while in comfortable silence, eventually, I glanced up at him. “Hey, I wanted to ask how Leo was? I haven’t been able to get to him, and I thought maybe he was ignoring me because of everything going on between you and me.”
