A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 129

Chapter 129

The next day, Joseph went to work and called the university professor, Robin Klein. He stated that in Bill’s case, the woman had provided Bill’s biological evidence, which essentially amounted to irrefutable proof.

“Oh, Bill, I didn’t want to destroy you completely. We were classmates once, after all. But since you brought this on yourself, then that’s hardly my fault.”

With that thought, Joseph put the matter of Bill out of his mind. He finished reviewing all the surveillance footage and confirmed that the woman from yesterday had been visiting a patient.

He went to the ward, which was a private room. The patient inside was named Yvonne Hood.

“Yvonne Hood, female, 38 years old. Intracranial hemorrhage, multiple internal organ bleeds, multiple fractures, and external injuries…”

Upon reading her admission details, Joseph thought it was a miracle someone with injuries this severe had survived. But after seeing Yvonne herself, he reached a different conclusion.

Her records stated she accidentally fell from a building, but she clearly had signs of being beaten and assaulted. He suspected that if there had been a fall at all, then she must have been thrown off the building.

That was right-she had been thrown off! There was another thing that bothered him. He had passed by the room during his rounds over the last two days, but seeing no record of the patient in the logbook, he assumed it was a special patient being handled by Walt and never stepped inside.

Yvonne had already been hospitalized for ten days at that point. Intensive and effective treatment had finally stabilized her enough to be transferred out of the ICU. But on this very last day, Joseph showed

Yvonne was secretly startled when she saw Joseph. “It’s you…”

As he had come uninvited, her first thought was that he was here to interrogate her, so she immediately started groaning and feigning a headache.

Joseph didn’t beat around the bush. “I won’t make things difficult for you, but you have to tell me her name.”

Yvonne remained silent.

“You know that I’m Cora’s legal husband, right? Even if I told her I killed you, she wouldn’t give me any trouble. And I have other ways to find that bitch’s name and info. I’m giving you a chance by asking you to speak,” Joseph said coldly.
