A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 139

Chapter 139

“Dad doesn’t want me anymore, so I won’t eat!” Kimberly declared stubbornly at Helen’s place. She’d already knocked the breakfast Helen served her onto the floor.

The mess left the older woman both furious and helpless. “You didn’t eat yesterday, and now you won’t eat today. You’ll starve to death if you keep this up.”

Kimberly’s eyes reddened. “I’m not eating unless Dad comes to feed me. If I starve to death, then I’ll starve. Dad doesn’t want me anyway. I don’t want to live.”

“You…” Helen found herself completely powerless against Kimberly.

In the end, she was forced to call Bernard and demand that he and Cora return from their business trip. ”

Bernard, if the two of you don’t come back right now, then prepare to collect the bodies of your granddaughter and me!”

After hanging up furiously, Helen started to curse Joseph again. “Surgery, surgery, surgery! All he ever cares about is surgery! Other people’s lives matter, but his own daughter’s life doesn’t?”

Unfortunately, her anger accomplished nothing. Joseph’s phone was switched off, and he was already inside an operating room.

Walt hurried to the operating room. Only after Joseph finished the procedure did Walt tell Joseph about Kimberly’s hunger strike.

That girl possessed a stubbornness that was on a completely different level than her sisters. She might actually carry it on till the end.

Joseph felt a brief moment of worry, but then he recalled that Kimberly would eventually leave his life. Perhaps this was exactly when he needed to be ruthless. After all, a sharp pain now was better than endless suffering later.

Joseph said firmly, “Dr. Loughlin, do you really think Helen and her housekeeper can’t handle a child? I’ll say this one last time. My family matters are none of your concern. You don’t need to interfere, and you can’t solve them anyway.”

Joseph walked away without waiting for a response.

After that, he contacted Grace. “You said you had something for me. What is it? Just send it over.”

Grace answered hesitantly, “Joseph, are you sure you want to see it?”

Joseph added firmly, “Don’t make me ask twice.”

After a brief pause, Grace replied, “Alright. I’ll send them to you.”
