“What can I do if you refuse to divorce? Since you don’t want to do it, you’ll just have to pay for it!”

That was what Joseph thought. He hated himself for being powerless, for not being able to keep Cora in check. If he were also someone from the upper crust, with powerful connections backing him, would Cora still have the guts to act like this?

Then again, if he had a background that could rival the Lowell family, would Cora have even cheated in the first place?

So, at the end of the day, he had only himself to blame for being powerless. Still, that didn’t give Cora the right to be unfaithful.

Joseph didn’t expect Fiona to walk in right then. She plopped herself down without waiting for an invitation and picked up the utensils. “I’ll keep you company, Joseph. If anything is troubling you, you can talk to me about it.”

Joseph poured Fiona a glass of water, then handed it to her. “Cora and I have pretty much fallen out now. We’re just pretending everything’s fine on the surface. She has seriously pushed me to abandon many of the principles I once held dear, yet you still dare to get close to me? Aren’t you afraid I’ll ruin you too?”

Fiona’s hand, which was holding the glass, froze for a moment. “Oh? And how exactly do you plan to ruin me?”

“I could slip something into your drink that could make you think I’m your husband. Then, you wouldn’t be able to keep your hands off me.”

“You really know how to scare a person!”

Fiona set the glass down, no longer daring to drink from it. “What were you talking about with Cora?”

“That’s none of your business.”

Joseph abruptly grabbed Fiona’s wrist to check her pulse before she could pull away. Only after a while did he let go. “You should get a scan done. Don’t put it off. Serious illnesses are often the result of putting things off.”

“Joseph, that’s even scarier! I’m perfectly healthy. I’m not sick!”

Naturally, Fiona didn’t believe Joseph.

Joseph didn’t say anything else since he’d already fulfilled his duty as a doctor by giving a warning. If the patient insisted on being stubborn, then she could only suffer the consequences of their own choices.

When Joseph returned to the hospital, he noticed that the people Cora had assigned to watch him were still there. He seethed internally, questioning whether Cora truly saw him as nothing more than a criminal. When he got a call from Lacey, he told her to bring Yvonne over.

Joseph had Paige arrange a hospital room for Yvonne. Then he went in shortly after to perform acupuncture on Yvonne. In no time at all, the fear-induced distortion in her face was gone.
