“Dad, what were you talking to him about? Why did he give me that look?” Cora asked.

“Dad, have you still not figured out the situation? I don’t want a divorce. I can’t get one either. With him around, I have someone I can rely on. Did you two talk about me again?” Cora asked, her expression turning serious.

“He brought it up first. He mentioned Warren’s death and asked what I thought about it. What was I supposed to think? Who cares if a man like Warren dies? What’s there to discuss?” Bernard responded.

Seeing that Cora didn’t have a change in expression, Bernard continued, “Joseph said that Warren may be gone, but what he did isn’t. He doesn’t intend to let the matter go.”

“Is there anything else?” Cora asked calmly, though she was far from calm.

“And the fire at New World Group. He suggested that you two get divorced. Then, you can find that man you’ve been relying on. You two could join forces against the Croma faction. That way, the Lowell family could survive this crisis and stabilize the situation in Jenton,” replied Bernard.

“Has work fried his brain? I don’t have anyone to rely on!” Cora denied.

Upon seeing that Bernard had nothing more substantial to add, Cora left the study. After all, Joseph had only been in the study for a short time. There couldn’t have been much more discussion than that.

Outside, Joseph was on the phone, giving instructions to his department at the hospital. Although work was calling, he had no intention of rushing back immediately.

Saving lives was important, but he wasn’t a machine. He couldn’t devote every waking second to patients. He had a life too.

After ending the call, Joseph went into the master bedroom, took a shower, changed into pajamas, and climbed into bed. It was still early. Cora hadn’t sent the children to sleep yet, so there was no possibility of going to bed together anytime soon. Thus, he began reading a book.

At 10:00 pm, she entered the room. After showering, she climbed into bed and straddled him. Without saying a word, they did what they always did.

Afterward, both of them still had energy left because they hadn’t exhausted themselves. Cora didn’t fall asleep right away. Instead, she waited until Joseph returned from washing up.

“Anyway, if you wanted to tell me about them, you should have done it sooner. Otherwise, I’m just hearing it for a second time.”

“You’ve heard it from Grace?” Cora asked.

Joseph responded, “I don’t care about the fights regarding your business interests. Cora, if you want to tell me the truth about Warren, I would gladly listen.”
